Yes, Miami is a city. Cities are like that.

Oh wait...it was up in 2 areas...Larceny & Bicycle thefts.
Those are nothing to be even concerned about.
Did a simple car break in ruin your life in Charlotte. I have had 2 cars broken into...big deal...at least I have never been mugged, car jacked, had a home invasion...etc
Charlotte's crime is not bad...compared to South Flordia...it is a walk in the park.

I am not going to bash Charlotte , because I rather quite like it ... but I have been in South Florida for over fifteen years ... have never been robbed , raped , held up , hog tied , been the victim of a home invasion , or never known the victim of a home invasion , never had my car broken into , I have never had anyone offer me drugs on the street , never seen a pony tailed Colombian drug dealer with an UZI anywhere ..... I just stay away from the crappy areas .. no need to hang out in Carol City or in Miami Gardens , or Hialeah or Overtown , or Liberty City or Lauderhill or East Miramar or Riviera Beach ... sorry and I do not wear rose colored glasses ... there are many things I dislike about South Florida and Miami in particular .. the ghetto culture , fraud and corruption stand out the most .... I don't even care that so many people speak Spanish who cares it is a free country ... but to imply that crime down here in South Florida is like Detroit on a bad day or it is as violent as Baghdad is wrong , irresponsible and unfair ...... ..... period .

Hialeah and east Miramar aren't even that bad, and you pretty much covered the rest. I have spent a fair amount of time in Hialeah and actually go to east Miramar on a fairly regularly basis (no not to buy weed) and never had problems in either. Hialeah mainly has a couple problem apartment blocks, the rest can be ugly with paved lawns and burglar bars but not horribly dangerous. East Miramar just has a couple of crappy apartments off of State Road 7 (ending at about 62nd Ave) and Pembroke Rd (ending at Sherman Circle), the rest of it is just working class and actually fine. I would replace those two with west Hollywood and Pompano Beach. Like everywhere else there are good and bad areas in South Florida and while this area is very polarized, I don't think it's any more so than other major cities.

You know, I'm not a huge fan of Miami or South Florida, but crime? In 6 years of living here, I have never been robbed, mugged, raped (even though I'm a dude), my car has never been so much as scratched and I've never even received any form of verbal abuse, aside from the customary South Florida rudeness, which is basically nothing personal.
I know there are some *extremely* dangerous parts of Miami, but on the whole, I have always felt safe here, even in places like Hialeah and Sweetwater, where I have never had any issues. I honestly think that much of Miami is relatively safe, so long as you use your head and don't stray into the "bad areas" and if you don't purposely look for trouble.

Excellent posts by you and Compelled .... many things to dislike in South Florida but to imply that is like something out of "The Road Warrior " is bunk .

Leovigildo,
WOW! so you think that being genuine nice is not possible? How sad. That is really sad. Let me tell you that there are actually genuine nice people around; yes even in Miami, even though it is not nearly as common as in other places.
I will agree that having people up front and honest is better than fake and being a hypocrite. But I think your views are extreme though.
Based on your statements people are not genuine nice. If they appear to be nice, polite, and caring, you assume that it is fake? You have a sad and paranoid view of humanity. Your views and opinions are what is generally wrong with people in Miami that think like you; and it is sad.
