^^^ Hopefully those areas will stay "St Augustine" and "Pensacola" as I pronounce them. Unlike the above. Of course, the way things are changing, who knows how long it will stay like this.

The Spanish named it "San Agustin"..."Saint Augustine" is now, as with Pensacola, devoid of Spanish influence save historical relics.

As far as staying that way, who knows? If you look at the numbers, the Hispanic population is expected to double, to more than 100 million, in the next 40 years. Multiply that by a few hundred more years...

The only constant thing in life is change!

Sorry Mod, now I'm taking the "decades" thing the other way!

Most Spanish names in Florida are well written. Others are badly written, but they sound nice within the context: Ponte vedra for Pontevedra, Delray for Del Rey, Boca Raton for Boca de Ratón, Key West for Cayo Hueso, St. Marks for San Marcos, Cape Canaveral for Cabo Cañaveral, Key Byscaine for Cayo Vizcaino, Emeralda, Estero, Escambia, etc.

Other Spanish names come from the land boom of the 20's: El Portal, El Jobean.

But Saint Augustin shoud be San Agustín just because the historical importance of the fort.

Nobody is thinking of renaming Miami for "Chequescha or Misión Chequesca", for example.

Wrong, that area is still packed with Minorcans and their descendants.

'Nuff said.
We all interpret history to fit our motives.
Great Spanish descent countries: Argentina, Venezuela, Peru.
Mediocre English descent countries: Jamaica, Belize, Bahamas.
