were Outta Here! (Miami, Weston, Marathon: insurance, movers, low crime)

Well, after 47 years living in South Florida (Miami, Marathon and now Weston), we are finally moving tomorrow to North Carolina. The movers took our stuff today, and we leave tomorrow at 1 PM. I cant think of a single thing I will miss, my Wife will miss the Cuban food. Our new home is more than double the size of where we live now, with a 1/2 acre lot. My insurances all went down by at least 50% (Auto went down 65%)! No wind storm insurance! No flood insurance! It was 50 degrees this AM! I can speak English in any restaurant I go to! I wont have the AC runnning this coming X-mas (or Halloween for that matter)! Instead of travelling 8 hours to get out of the State, I could be through my 5th State in that same time! Still only 7 hours to Disney, and only 5 to DC and 12 to NYC!

So where do I go? Nice people, high crime? Or rude people, low crime? I live in Weston too.

There is actually not a single significantly sized city in NC that is safer than Weston. Not even Cary. There are smaller cities that are however.

I'd go for rude people any day. At least you know what's on their mind most of the time. That southern hospitality stuff makes me a bit suspicious.

Actually the OP didn't mention rude people or high crime once. They mostly were talking about the cost of living. I'm not sure if I would define them as true malcontents although maybe they are, since they had to make a thread just to tell us they are moving to NC. Almost as if the OP is putting everyone else down. OK, I I read they second part, they are malcontents.

One door closes, another opens. I live in the Cary/Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, and while its been great, I am relocating with work down to Miami. Hey, NC is great, but don't kid yourself, there are issues anywhere you go. Call me crazy, but I'm actually looking forward to this move. Hey, if nothing else, I can be a UF Gator fan, do the Gator chomp, and not feel guilty about it.
