We are a couple in our thirties and have a one year old and are expecting another child. We currently live in Sarasota and love Miami but just do not know if it is a smart move for us. We love the outdoors and nature but also love action and nightlife. Our TOP priority is our children as it should be and is this a good place to raise children and enjoy life? The schools are our main priority and have found that Pinecrest and Palmetto bay would be good choices although they are somewhat pricey. We have also heard positive things about Aventura and would consider this area as well. We will most likely rent at first. Any advice on areas, crime, schools, and quality of life here would be much appreciated.

Why Miami? Aventura, Miami Lakes, Doral is not better than Sarasota. This is not a good place to raise kids. What will you do when your kids start to drive and head out to other areas of the city? Will you tell them stay in the Aventura area only? If so, will that really work when they have to attend collage and work out of the Aventura area? I know people in these areas, and they say it's getting bad too. Sarasota is so nice. Why Miami? The grass is not always greener on the other side. Good choice to rent first before you purchase and regret it later on down the line when your kids start to make their own choices and no longer can be kept at home all day. Good luck.

Just browsing the threads, giving good advice where I can.
DO. NOT. MOVE. TO. SOUTH. FLORIDA.
Expensive, hurricanes, reverse discrimination, police are useless, politicians are corrupt, people are rude, lousy place to raise a family, everyone is superficial, the jobs that are available pay terribly. Lived several places on the east side of the US and have visited many places on the west side. I heard that more people moved away from FL out than moved to FL this past year. Easy to see why.
DO. NOT. MOVE. TO. SOUTH. FLORIDA.

banana republic...that's how my old Poli Sci professor at FIU once described Miami and it's political scene. Dr. Morena caught a lot of flack for that statement, but most everyone knew he wasn't lying!
