You know, Florida obviously has its share of problems, but it seems like a lot of folks are attempting to associate a lot of very common problems exclusively with Florida. No matter where you go there will be a "type" that will get worse/better service. This is not only happening in Florida and although it is unfortunate, it happens most everywhere.
(Now you will inevitably get a couple of posts talking about how this is all wrong with a list of the places around the country where folks have received exemplary service) I'm not saying good service doesn't exist OR that it is not easier to come by in some places than others, but it seems to be the exception these days, instead of the rule. No matter where you go, in a service industry where the employees are working for tips, they will usually cater more to the dude who rolls up in a Mercedes than the one who rolls up in a Hyundai. That's just the way the ball bounces. I understand that feeling of being frustrated and fed-up with "things" where you happen to live. I am in that same boat, but there are certain things happening ALL over and I don't think it's fair to blame Florida for issues that are sadly happening all over. |

In short, my problem isn’t with Florida – it’s with MIAMI and some of the people that live here. Last edited by Jammie; 03-01-2007 at 04:19 PM. Reason: flame |

What about the Miami Book Fair International? What about Books & Books? What about the many restaurants with cuisine from around the globe? What about the Wine Tasting Festival? What about the Coconut Grove Art Festival? What about the beaches? What about not having to shovel snow in February? What about the growing cultural community? What about the many students from around the world attending Miami Dade College and FIU? The Cubans happen to be the most successful immigrant group of the last century. With the most college graduates; most homeowners; most business owners, etc. Many of you sound bitter and jelous. Give it a rest ... and enjoy ... or leave. Either way, Miami will continue to be. The city, like all other cities, remains indifferent.

"Unfortunately WASPs are just haters and can't distinguish ghetto mexicans from anybody else who speaks spanish"
i met and knew mexicans in california who were far FAR more successful than any cuban could even imagine here. of course thats not that extraordinary because there are just so many more opportunities back home. someone pointed out something else today i had forgotten about. the culture of petty theft here. many times in corporate work places people steal from each other. about a year ago i worked at the fontainebleau resort and up until it was purchased by a vegas casino company people were running out the back door all the time with 300 dollar bottles of cristal champagne and no one cared. when the resort was purchased they padlocked the fridges and canned a whole bunch of employees. now a large percentage of people running the place are from vegas and are of the mindset of west coast-style efficiency. the place i work at now has tons of people from michigan. it seems any place that actually works doesnt have the majority of it's workforce from miami. i was very VERY relieved to know that FPL's turkey point nuclear plant didnt have people born and raised here or there would be buckets collecting glowing radioactive water under the reactor. thats the problem with companies who want to open up shop here, they need to bring their labor force from somewhere else. |

When somebody resorts to personal insults / false accusations, you know they've lost the argument.
Just in case you didn't get that, you lose, basically. |

Trust me we are not exaggerating. Hint. If almost everyone one is telling saying the same thing there has to be a certain degree of truth. These are people from all different parts of the country, different nationalities religions etc. Most agree that Miami sucks. I am African American recently relocated from Los Angeles and I miss seeing black and white americans. People are rude here. No customer service, no education, entry level, minimum wage, low skills and angry because of all of the above. Its not that its just white americans complaining because of their inabality to adapt to a diverse culture. Most people who come to Miami are already aware of the different cultures and like myself were looking forward to them. The prevalent culture here however is one of stupidity ignorance and war like nothing to lose behavior that is placing a strain on the entire community as a whole. In other cities these problems exist but cities like L.A. New York, Chicago, are large spread out cities which have good parts and bad parts. You can leave those bad parts and go to other parts and you get a totally different perspective of the city. In Miami that doesnt happen because Miami is so small. So the bad service, rude people and ignorance is encountered more frecuently here than in other larger cities. The other part is that people here are not cultured. When you travel stay in hotels eat in fancy restaurants board airplanes and cross time zones you become cultured. You know what it feels like to be a customer, to be a tourist etc. Miami is a extremely poor city. Many in Miami have never been out of Miami and probably no further north than Orlando. Miami is all they know. And if they do know anything else its Haiti, Cuba, D.R. or some other third world country. If you really want to know what its like in Miami imagine the most ghetto crime filled disenfranchised community of your neighborhood. Its probably one of the parts you would never visit. Thats our whole city. Then imagine a causeway over a narrow stretch of water with a bunch of highrise hotels and condos some 5 or six miles from this horrific ghetto. Thats what all the hype is about.

LOL! I have heard this before from people who live in LA, but it's still funny.
