Default Sunny Isles Beach/Miami Schools

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Sunny Isles Beach. Obviously, visiting the beach seems like paradise (esp. since we left 100 degree weather in NJ). I just would be interested in learning what life is really like in Miami and the burbs. As we are both teachers, it would also be nice to know what the school situation is like.

I also noticed that there are condos around that area (either on or around A1A) that are going for $170s-$200's. Is there any reason for that, or has the market just tanked there?

Thanks!

Miami Dade County Public Schools is going through a major crisis right now with state budget cuts. They just surplussed between 500 and 800 employees, depending on whose numbers you want to believe, and many of those are teachers. I suspect there will be a lot left unemployed once the dust settles. Not the best time to look for a job with MDCPS, although it wouldn't hurt to look, you never know.

They recently pulled all their individual job postings off their web site and replaced them with a general paragraph saying they're hiring certain subject areas: Education Majors, ESE, Reading, Math, Speech/Language Pathology, Elementary Education, Science, and English. They'll fill those positions with those surplussed first, then hire from the outside. Employment with MDCPS is precarious at the moment.
