Most cities have "third world areas" if you are referring to the drug sales and the crimes that come along with it. You just have to try to get out of that one, and move to a safer area that's still close to school. Good luck.

No, I don't live in that neghborhood, but I am knowledgeable about the area since I am from here...grew up here...and have watched some things change, other things still the same. As I mentioned earlier, this is the one bad area, in the middle of a very nice area...so I am thinking maybe your friends live near this address, but going towards UM more or the Gables more so...and of course, those areas are much nicer.

HouseMd1 it sold for $465K in 09 / 07
Bought by a person living in Sunny Isle according to property appraiser's office.
Please tell me what they are asking for this as a rental?
In my opinion the area is dicey.
If you do GoogleEarth you get an idea.
I know the area.
But, please Housemd1, what's the rent for this 465K house?
p.s. Be careful with your deposit.

I don't even know anymore, it changed once already. Around $700.
How is this area? 6165 SW 63ST SOUTH MIAMI FL 33143
Also, thanks for everyone's help. It's so hard to really know an area if you're not down there.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that street is not much better (you are only two blocks away from your original address). That area was razed not too many years ago and was replaced by housing that Habitat for Humanity built. That is why many of the home on those blocks look somewhat new and similar. You will have the same problems there as at the other address.
Basically, you get what you pay for...and I assume you are looking for places that are "nice" with amenities, in a good location and for a good price. Unfortunately, there are no places like that in Miami. If they look nice and seem centrally located for a good price, this is why.
You should splurge and get a place in a better area...don't give up, there are TONS of great places to live near UM and along the Metrorail...maybe you should come down for a visit and do some searching in person. You usually find the best places in local papers (not online) or just driving around or asking.
I was hesitant to post this earlier as it is a major generalization, but any address in SOUTH Miami on a street in the 60's with an address that starts with 60 something is basically not a good area. (where the 60s avenues cross the 60 streets). Just avoid apartments in that area and you will be fine.

No, that's very helpful! I'm actually not going to be a student at UM, I'll be a student at Ross University (7000 SW 62nd Street) but I'll most likely have a car so there shouldn't be much walking involved. So I guess the second address (6855 SW 63rd Street) was the better of the three? Would the traffic be really bad driving down to Ross from that address? Hopefully not. Thanks so much for your help! It's greatly appreciated.

The 6855 SW 63 St. address is the winner. It is in a nicer area, and I would think you should be fine living there, especially now that you are aware of your surroundings. I think you would like this address...and the drive to your school won´t be bad at all. Good luck!

I think Chelito is 100% right. That's a tough area and you need to be careful where you move. It's a nice area with a really bad ghetto in between. I've seen barred homes myself (used to have a friend around 60 and 61) I know they put those bars b/c of robberies in the neighborhood.
In my opinion it's not a safe neighborhood and I would avoid it. I don't mean to scare you.
