I would like to know if there are any aspiring actors or actress living in Miami. Would you recommend moving there to start an acting career or are any of you moving to LA OR NEW YORK...Also how do you find a good agent?

youd have better luck following the action to where stuff is actually filmed now like canada or romania. thats where all the jobs are now. i worked for nbc universal a few years ago doing computer tech work for the movie execs. other countries provide tax incentives you cant get in the US. its too expensive to film here so everyone takes it overseas. schwarzenegger has been fighting the CA government for awhile to do stuff to get the jobs back but i dont think its made much of an impact. i had a friend who had to close down her movie prop business. few things are made in LA now, like law in order *barf*
my gf and i knew a girl from alabama who moved to LA, busted her ass, made all sorts of connections only to squeeze her way into a bit part in princess diaries 2. theres a whole scene there of wannabes using other wannabes and the churn is horrendous. lots of shattered dreams. the jobs just arent in LA anymore. theyre international.

Every waiter in South Beach is a model/actor. My cousin is a real estate agent/actor. Too many golddiggers and wannabes. I used to work at a talent agency that is owned by a family member and I can tell you that there is nothing much out here for actors. There are no agents out here. This is only good for Hip Hop singers.

I'm a singer and I didn't see much opportunity. But isn't there supposed to be this big Spanish TV and Music thing going on there? How do you get into that? I mean, they should have auditions and stuff just like everyone else, wouldnt they?

I don't think Miami is a good place to break into an acting career. My brothers-in-law are/were actors. There was very little work, and what work there was....was not enough to live on. So one became a school teacher (a very low-paying job here) and the other lives with a rich girlfriend. Oh well.

But on of them used to say....you can be a "big fish in a little pond (here) or a little fish in a big pond in LA/NY."

Had a friend who tried to break into the scene. Went to a lot of his plays, and he got some bit roles in Something About Mary (he played the postman), and Holy Man (starring Eddie Murphy), but couldn't get anything going strong so he ended up moving to LA-LA land a.k.a. Los Angeles where he's still currently looking for "West Coast representation"

Did your friend find luck in LA?

moderator is having a field day deleting my posts even though nearly all of them are completely legit under the TOS.
i dont know what his problem is
he never deleted all the flat out racist rants of some people on here
he should be happy theres healthy debate on here and keep his own personal opinions out of it since he lives in tennessee which is a hell of alot more friendly place than miami.
honestly i have to kind of envy the fact that hes surrounded by good friendly people.

LHBR702,

Not as much as he wanted. He got an agent and worked in a lot of small theater, but didn't get a big break. By day he worked at Disney's corporate office, and recently informed me that he & family are moving outside Las Vegas.

If we think the housing market is bad here.....just look at Southern California
