Default Miami Blows, and I'll tell you why

As a young, intelligent woman who has lived in this metropolis for over two years, I can firmly state this fact: Miami Blows.

As a person who takes her college education and job seriously, Miami blows.

I feel like the only career worth pursuing in Miami is Law or in the adult entertainment industry (stripping).

After spending two years here, struggling as a part-time college student/bartender/waitress, I have been short-changed.

If you want to raise decent children, DO NOT MOVE HERE. If you value intellect and down-to-earthness, DO NOT MOVE HERE.

Before I get attacked by life long residents of Miami, I would like to say this is a great city. Its fun and I have enjoyed immersing myself in the culture. I am just highly intolerant of the superficial and of rudeness, and that is something Miami has in surplus.

I will go into further detail later, I am tired right now.Feel free to comment now if you would like.

How can you say Miami blows and then about 6 lines down you say it is a great city, that is very contradictory like you are trying to be patronizing to the people who think Miami truly is a great city.

Miami is #2 in finacial banking next to New York along with being # 2 in the garment industry along with being the cruise capital of America,a great tourist destination by foreigners, hotel and restaurant mgt. and that is just to name a few,in fact we are the "Gateway to Latin America"so we are more than just jobs for lawyers and adult entertainers.

Miami has some great colleges in the University of Miami,Barry College,FIU and others plus there are a prodigious amount of private schools in Miami and some noted public schools as well.

Miami has some nice places to raise children, but one has to know where that is so they have to do their homework first . Sure there are rude people here ,but I doubt that is true all over the area and it is no different than any other big city.

Nobody is promised anything in this lifetime,we all feel short-changed at one time or another, but a college education is no promise of a good job or career,it is just a sheepskin you get to carry around after you graduate.

I think a city can "blow" and be great at the same time when it's not living up to it's full potential and Miami isn't the only city like that, Los Angeles comes to mind as well. Some cities have a great climate, location, etc...but fail in a lot of other areas.

Don't get me wrong. I like Miami and would rather live here than Nebraska, but I feel dissapointed. The odds are against students who support themselves finacially 100% (me). Public transit is a joke, I would have to take 3 busses just to get to school and 1 or 2 busses just to get to work. Keep in mind that is a 2-3 hour commute on bus. Also, I feel like I have been treated unfairly because I don't speak spanish fluently.

I guess part of it is because I'm from Boston, where it is easier to live as a broke, young American person.

If you would like more info on this subject, feel free to visit this rather amusing blog I have recently stumbled across (this is not MY blog):White Dade: Welcome to Dade County

Also, I hope this post doesn't get me banned on my first day here.

Miami isnt what I thought it was either I moved here from PA . I have a 4 yr degree but that doesnt mean your going to get a good job here or anywhere.
I dont know if thats what you mean by "short changed" . I am doing well ONLY because an Army friends dad has a company and I got a good job because its HIS company lol.
The co had opening here and I took it . It is superficial and rude way more than PA but some areas better than others.
I rarely stay in my area (Doral) as its superficial x superficial and I cant stand it .
I made a mistake moving to this area but considering countless houses for sale I am here for now. If I win Florida lotto I am heading to Key west.
I am no intellect so that part doesnt bother me lol.

I'm guessing the blowing part has something to do with school....not the fun.... like finding out your credits after two years are not transferable would blow....
