Why is it that the worst of Miami is refered to as the "real" Miami?!?! Thats seems so cynical and ridiculous. The majority of Miami lives normal, working class lifestyles, with much of the same issues the rest of the country faces.
And in what way in west of I-95 hell? Even slightly. Yeah theres the areas near the river and up to Opa-Locka and Carol City with crime and then down in probably Westchester and parts of Hialeah that are asthetically unpleasing, but west of I-95 is the vast majority of Miami and its for the most part like any other suburban area and comercial areas with little crime.
Now, if your refering to the fact its for the most part mass suburbia, then yeah, thats how it is, with very little bright spots of urbanity.

Wild, isnt this the city you prefer over your home in Broward? Goodness, where do you live if a place like MIAMI is where you prefer, being that it is so run down and dirty. Let's just leave it at personal preference and what ones idea of beauty is.

I think you are posting responses just for the heck of it. Re read what I said, I said WEST of 95 is run down. Move here, learn the place, then get back to me. I have lived where you lived (NYC born and raised) and lived where you would like to live (south florida) i know both like the back of my hand. Oh and just for a correction. I named rosedale earlier in my places prettier/nicer than south florida statement, in my tiredness, I meant riverdale. Anyway, just do some research instead of trying to correct me on a place you know little about. Before this latest boom, a LOT of miami was very rundown, I mean VERY. Even downtown Miami was full up with bums and these nasty two story apartments near the old arena. As I stated before, up until a year or so ago Macys was threatning to pull out of downtown because of how unkept, rundown and devoid of foot traffic the place was. It has come a LONG way, but this growth and renewl has been on the east side of 95 and mostly in the city center.

I will do that - I will take what you tell me about Miami with a grain of salt a place that you don't live and you can take what I tell you about NY with that same grain about riverdale a place I don't live in.

You may have been in Miami Beach- or Fort Lauderdale- because let me tell you- this place is NOTHING like NY. Ill admit I was dumb and thought it would be. Assuming you ignore the obvious, palm trees, grid design, tall buildings--- you are left with the following...
1. Too much pizza- and all of it is not worth one NY slice
2. No clean grocery stores
3. No Honor- people will ********* over for a nickel here
4. No English- even if you defend this with "I speak spanish"- do you speak creole?
5. No fair process- especially in the building contracts (ie: the stadium)
6. Corruption worse than NY at its hight and worthy for an award
7. The bread here- terrible- and dont get me started on the "what IS a hot dog" conversation.
8. You must own a car here- and people do not use the "left lane = fast lane" rule.
9. Despite what youve heard- hurricanes do suck- alot.
I could go on for years- but my answer would be a great big resounding NOT AT ALL.

Mcsmith0210,
To be fair, a lot of people in S FL are from NY. So you have to see where a little of the blame is placed. But Miami is filled with foreigners with not a lot of courtesy, so trust me, I do understand where you are coming from, lol. However, I have to know about the "what IS a hot dog?" Please do explain!!!

People here think a "hot dog" is any cylindrical meat you buy a a grocery store and stick into a dirty water cart. they have no clue what condiments are supposed to go on it. a "hot dog" is something anyone in new york knows is a very serious deal- and the attempt to recreate down here is insulting at best. stick to latin food.
there is not one decent hamburger restaurant here- not fast food- RESTAURANT. this is nothing like NY and it shouldnt be. It never will be either.
