there is not one decent hamburger restaurant here- not fast food- RESTAURANT. this is nothing like NY and it shouldnt be. It never will be either.

So that we are clear, it's New Yorkers who define what is real and what isn't real? Thanks. I understand now. I'll make sure to reference a New Yorker anytme I need clarification on anything. Thanks again.

Oh, ok. I thought it was going to be a funny story, but instead it was just another NY'er telling anyone who will listen how they do things better. Lovely. Man, those NY'ers, I tell ya. FL is so glad to be filled with them. And you wonder why they have a rep down here, and at times I throw out some insults about how they act/drive and how they are at times rude, and usually, statements like these do nothing but re-assure me of my feelings.

Wow - this looks like it can turn nasty. As a native NYer I can understand some of the points that Mcsmith brings up, but on the other hand I can see how annoying it would be for someone ele to constantly think that they are the authority on something. I might add that WHY would you leave NY to go somewhere else hoping it would be exactly like NY????? I'm not being a smart a$$, but seriously why even bother leaving. NY has its qualities as does Miami. You just have to figure out which area suits you better. If you are looking for a larger variety of diversity then NY is the place for you. If you like the tropical feel with a strong latin presence then Miami is for you. All depends on personal preference - do we agree on that?

Tropical feeling and latin presence i agree with. I did not expect this place to be NY. I love the weather- there are plenty of great things- Im just cautioning a person who is thinking that way- to reverse that thinking. Miami is in no way- not even the slightest bit like NY. And if someone from Miami could live in NY and experience what good city planning was- they would agree. For example- The road repairs done at rush hour here. The noise of construction in residential areas at 7am with dust everywhere because the contractors do not have to put dust sheeting up. The "express lanes". Stoplights on on-ramps. Trucks and old people in every lane of the highway- instead of a right lane restriction. No inspections on cars- which leads to ten times more unsafe cars/unsafe drviers who endanger all of our lives driving unfit vehicles. Towns and areas of the city where no one knows who services the roads and garbage because they are allowed to stay "unincorporated" for the long term. How about having every major venue in the city within a 10 block radius? And lets plan it so all those cars need to leave the parking lots simultaneously so that when people who live in that neighborhood are trying to go home- they need to wait 2 hours to go ten blocks. Theres so much more that NY has that is unmatched here-
Blame it on whatever- this city grew too fast for itself and it shows. Poor planning abounds.
There are tons of positives- and im not bashing- Im trying to caution a New Yorker who thinks this is "almost the same" that its dangerous to think that way.
And ya i made the choice to move here- doesnt mean we can all afford to move anywhere anytime. Sometimes you just have to grip the brakes and hope control is returned.

"Miami is in no way- not even the slightest bit like NY"
Very, very untrue. I find that the people are very similar. Rude, obnoxious, and all about themselves.

I understand - I agree I don't think that Miami is at all like NY in the slightest. The only thing that is similar to me is that there are NY transplants.
