Rude people and bad drivers are mostly in Miami Dade County ... Broward and Palm Beach Couty are slightly better , but it is unfair to lump all of Florida with South Florida . This is a huge state and I find the west coast different from the east coast , North Florida very different from South Florida .. the people are different as you will find much friendlier laid back people on the other coast , North Florida and the panhandle . I was recently in Stuart and Palm City which are only one hundred miles or so from Miami and I felt like I was in another state .. so you should not pass judgement on all of Florida just because of Miami / Dade County .

I find the rush-rush-rush, get outta my way in many cities and areas of FL, not just S FL. Come to Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, it's all the same man, just not as bad as down there. Although Orlando might be pretty close.
Ft. Myers, Naples, etc... all the same too. Sure there are nice people there as are everywhere, but you still get that feeling. I agree with you about most of Northern FL, but people can still be pretty aggressive in Jax, Palm Coast, and DB.
I get what you are saying, and I do agree, FL definitely differs depending on what area you are in, but I was speaking in general terms. I am a native, I have seen all there is for the most part, and many places have changed and places that were quiet and friendly arent as so anymore. And, I agree ... Palm City/Stuart are nice.

I WISH Miami was like New York!!
I love New York...the only thing that is similar is that Miami attracts New Yorkers...but little resemblance to NY outside of that.

Yeah, my mom took three girlfriends of her's to a show and she was practically begging me to drop her off and pick her up, not a small ask. Now, it's my mom, I'll do it. But she is not one to ask something lightly of her children either. And this the Arscht Center is supposed to bring culture to Miami, but people can hardly get to it? What the hell is going on down here?
Plus I was late getting there to pick them up because it took me 20 minutes to get to the Arscht from the AAA.
For those not from Miami, The Arscht is a Concert hall, (Or some such) Across the street is where my Mom made us all go see the Nutcracker two XMASes ago at the Carnival (as in cruise line) Performing Arts center. The AAA is the American Airlines Arena, where the Miami Heat play. Mavericks fans know the building, I am sure. In a flat out sprint I could get to the Arscht from the AAA in maybe 5 minutes, 8 minutes tops. It took me 20 minutes in the car because of the traffic surrounding the people trying to leave, people coming in to pick up others trying to leave, and people coming in for the next show.
Miami is a nightmare, especially during a big event. The system is not set up to handle all the traffic for a big event. In a city where their is public transport, people have other options. In Miami, you have none.

Just as you say my statements are subjective - so are yours. I know plenty of NYer's that think Florida is a much nicer place than NY hence the reason there are so many NYers in SFL. I'm not here to debate you on this, I said this was my opinion and yours is your own. I don't think there is much argument about Miami being prettier though. If you like dirty streets and old buildings then NY is the place for you, but I'll take the white sand and clean streets over Sky Scrapers any day.

SheetRock .. I hate to break it to you but in that case you can make the same claim for driving in Boston , Atlanta , Houston or Los Angeles ... driving in most of Florida outside Orlando and Miami / Dade County is a joke compared to the cities I listed above . My gripe is that many people on this forum punish all of Florida for the "sins" of South Florida and mainly Miami . By the way I would live in Stuart or Palm City in a heartbeat !!

Again thats YOUR opinion. The same way you know tons of NYers who like Miami better. I know tons who have came, saw and gone back home because they thought NYC was better both aesthetically and socially. Matter of opinon. I would put Clinton Hills, Brooklyn Heights, midwood park, Sea Gate, Rosedale, Park Slope and on and on up againts anything Miami had to offer, any day of the way. But again thats MY opinion just as you have yours.
Secondly, you don't live in South Florida, I do. Outside of PARTS of Miami, many of the streets and buildings are just as beatup and run down as anything NYC has. Heck you don't have to venture outside of the downtown to catch glimpses of that. They have come a long way though. You also have some parts of Miami that look third worldish. Has nothing to do with the people living there though, has more to do with the level of decrepidness. When you take off your tourist goggles and put on your resident glasses down here you will see what I and tons of others who live here are talking about.

Perhaps, but I don't think when people are asking if NY is like Miami, that they are saying is the South Bronx like the Pork & Beans area in Miami - you are describing all that is wrong with Miami (again in MY opinion) and nothing that is right about it. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with NY I just don't see the beauty in it on the level that you do. I would venture to think that any day of the week most people would say that Miami is a prettier place than NY - Rosedale looks similar to any town in Ft. Lauderdale - you have to do better than that. Like you so poignantly stated - you live in Miami, I don't - I live in NY, so what you remember or think your remember NY being may not be any more. The other places are nicer now due to gentrification, but now the average person is priced out forcing you to be a what "Tourist" to the area.
