Hi,
I am looking for apartments and I found interesting stuff in the Kendall, the Crossings, and North Miami Beach. Are these places safe? I was also wondering if you guys can tell me how long it will take me to get from these places to Biscayne Island? Thanks a lot!!! |

key biscayne is hard to get to. its easier to get to it coming from the north than coming from the south.
youre pretty much doing a long drive through lots of traffic lights up us-1 which can take forever coming from the south. you can get really close by coming from the north and taking i-95 south to where it dead ends right by there. |

I would say there is no place absolutely safe. I was born here. Hmmm. There are nice smallish homes near NMB city hall/Greynolds park/Ojus. Then there are hugh condos in Aventura. I will have to say I moved to Cooper City (Broward County) we have our own problems with our own city government, and there is crime here too. A lot of traffic on 163rd street. Avoid it.
It is a sort of Paradise here. Where else would it be 80 degrees in January. Miami seems a bit depressed at times. I don't want to say I jumped ship, but we got a better home here than in Dade, I believe. Lucky for us we bought in 1994. Sometimes, I feel like moving. But I cannot and will not leave my parents. I like living nearby them. Now Biscayne Island, is that over by Brickell where the 4 seasons hotel used to be? Or do you mean Key Biscayne? The traffic is horrible, and forget about taking public transportation, even worse. Rush hour....I'd leave 2 hours before...either from Kendall or NMB. I don't know Kendall since I am from the northern part of Dade County (Hialeah) |

For the person who said it is better from the North of Miami, how long would it take from Aventura to Key Biscayne? Thanks! |

Aventura to Key Biscayne during AM & PM commute will take at least an hour (on a good day) and up to 2 hours in the event of accidents (and unfortunately, there are plenty of them on a daily basis)

I cannot think of a more hellacious commute than from either of those areas (The Crossings and N Miami area). I think that the Crossings would be slightly longer. Either commute could run an hour or more and double, triple, quadruple that if there is an accidrnt or the express is closed.
I think N Miami area might be slightly better only because you will have alternate side street routes through some very bad areas, which will lessen the gridlock. Also, the Corssings would mean the possibility of a parital Metrorail ride to work.Drive to Dadeland South, and then get off at Brickell. From there, see if you can get a co worker to pick you up or take the bus if that's doable. Good luck. |

From The Crossings to Key Biscayne 45 minutes in rush hour, give or take.

waow! It looks like it's bad from anywhere. What's the best place to live for a commute up to 45 min that is not in the middle of the city. I want to avoid living in a high rise building.

Try the King's Crossing area in Kendall behind Dadeland. It is adjacent to US 1, Dadeland Mall and US 1. It would shave 15 minutes off of the commute from the Crossings...and it has the metrorail station adjacent. Also apartment complexes and codo complexes on Kendall Drive EAST of US 1 abuting Pinecrest would be a good choice. Any other complex in the vicinity of US 1 going towards downton from Dadeland would be a possibility, depending on your price range and the exact area (avoid South Miami metrorail station area and Douglas Road Stations, west side of US 1.
As always, the grove is a nice, closer option. Let us know what you decide and how you like it, once you are moved in. |
