Just wondering about the city overall. Is it likely to be hit by a strong hurricane? Because I was looking at google maps and in some parts of the city it was raining from fay, whereas in South (Miami) Beach, and near the coast of Miami and downtown Miami it was completely dry with not a cloud in sight.

Miami was not affected any more than in a thunderstorm. Eventually the big one will destroy the city, but not in the near future.

I wonder if the downtown area would sustain alot of destruction from an Andrew or bigger storm.

I would worry about a storm surge and if the city could pump out flood waters fast enough.

Wilma did break many windows and flood some basement parking areas. I believe that a cat 5 will decimate downtown because the "canyon effect" increases wind speed between buildings. Debris will be effective at destroying many high-rises. While I doubt many buildings will collapse, the interiors will be soaked and torn apart. Storm surge will destroy much electrical and mechanical equipment, so there will be no water or power for a while after.

It rains a lot during the summer down here. Almost everyday with thunderstorms in the afternoon. So if you check the weather channel we're always green here during the summer.

Yes if a strong hurricane comes, we should evacuate if we want to live. Sometimes people don't pay attention because of so many warnings but I think that it's a huge mistake. I was here during Andrew and they actually underestimated it. The media said it was going to be a 2 maybe a 3 category storm and it ended up being a category 5. With Katrina the same thing happened, they thought it was only going to be a tropical storm when it hit Florida but it ended up being a cat 1 hurricane which flooded my home and destroyed our mango tree.

Nothing really happenned. A little rain, a little wind, and a lot of news coverage. That was it for my area (SW Broward).
