I am also defensive because Miami Gardens' population is predominantly black, and on many city forums on city-data, I have seen that people have over exaggerated when it came to giving information about areas with a minority majority. I live in Atlanta, and have read many posts that have made certain minority areas in Atlanta seem like hell on earth, and its not even like that. I'm not saying your information is wrong, but it may be exaggerated.

You said the whole area was horrible, but other posters have said otherwise. What do you think about the areas they have mentioned (West Miami Gardens and Andover)?
The whole area is horrible, some parts are less horrible (the main streets). I don't know why anyone would go out of their way to live there. Usually, residents catch any chance they can to leave areas like that and escape the cycle of poverty. If you are a black man, you still would not like it there. There's just too much crime and you would raise your chances of becoming a victim of a crime at some point by moving there. Try somewhere in Broward, like Miramar, which has a sizable black middle class. Or Pembroke Pines. Miami-Dade's black neighborhoods are over crowded and crime ridden.

Miramar is almost as bad as Miami-Gardens.

Are you kidding me? The only reason the crime is even as bad as it is is because of how CLOSE it is to Miami Gardens. The crime rate in Miramar has gone down over the years although yes there has been a SLIGHT increase over the past 3 years, but it hovers pretty close to the national average.

By comparison, Miami Gardens is probably the most dangerous city in the US. The only reason Miramar doesn't have a lower crime rate is because of how close it is to Miami Gardens.

There will be spillover crimes and trash blowing in all directions from Miami Gardens. That's what makes Miami so spicy!

West Miramar actually has some nice, albeit generic, looking communities with a large middle class black population.

Miami Gardens right now has the highest crime rates in Dade County (if you don't count the small cities like Opa-Locka, which parts of it were actually incorporated into Miami Gardens).

Truly, I know blacks that say that they would never live in areas like Miami Gardens, Riviera Beach, etc.

compelled..disagree completely with you on Miramar...but we will leave it at that. Wait till the 2007 and 2008 reports come out...you will be surprised.

On the original topic of Miami Gardens...this just in. Poor guy was just talking a walk around the block and shot and killed. 49 years old only.

Oh come on now. I'm not saying Miami Gardens is Fairfax County Virginia but there are some liveable parts. Its not like the Opa Locka Triangle. The only parts I would not recommend living in are between 441 (2nd Avenue) and Douglas (37th Ave). And I lived in DC during the 80s and 90s so you know those are some tough neighborhoods. As you go further west the better it gets. But seriously, a thug from Miami Gardens can easily take 183rd Street to Biscayne and rob somebody in Aventura. You just have to be on your toes and make good decisions (like not going to an ATM machine at 4am).
