Sunny Isles Beach

Hi Floridans,
I am an X Michigander relocating back to the states. I am considering moving to small suburbun town, Sunny Isles Beach, FL.
Can you tell me how often is it evacuated due to Hurricane or major Flood?
And does any one ever get hurt?
Great looking city?

You may want to do some more research on the area, as it is by no means a small, suburban town. It is highly densely populated area with lots of traffic, tourists and high-rise condos. It is surrounded by equally denslely populated Aventua to the west, very affluent Golden Beach to the north, and also highly affluent Bal Harbour to the South. Many of those living in Miami Beach and working in Broward county drive along A1A to get to work, so it can be very congested during rush hour.
Sunny Isles Beach also has one of the highest concentrations of Eastern Europeans in Miami-Dade county, as well as a large Jewish contingent.
Overall it is a safe, somewhat family-oriented place (as far as beach communities go), and is also in a mandatory evacuation zone should a hurricane hit. I like it a lot and have in the past considered living there. What exactly are you looking for in a community?

Sunny Isles Beach is more of a quieter, laid back version of South Beach. Expect the condos and dense build up of South Beach but classier and without the party vibe.
There is nothing "suburban" about this area. It is interesting to note that it has one of the highest percentage of Russians (mostly Jewish) in the United States living there, however.
If you like this area then you should also look into Hollywood (Broward County) or Aventura (a little west, also in Dade County).
If you're looking for a true suburb in Dade then I'd recommend Doral or Kendall. In Broward, Weston, Pembroke Pines, and west Miramar are good choices.
Good luck!

Its great if your old, its boring as hell if your young. its VERY safe. but not collins. theres been j walking releated deaths. So as long as you know how to cross the street your fine.

I know Sunny Isles is a well densified town, that and it being homicide safe and ocean front is what atracted it to me.
But I have one question, I am a mid - age person but am active as well - so what do you mean if you are a young guy it is boreing?
I play indoor basketball with the youngsters and beat them - no problem, like dining out with future wife and kids, cinima.
Great looking small town on Googles Earth, what I mean by small town is not by density but by size. So what, there are other surounding dense cities as mentioned.
Will I like it here, I think so? Also considering Seattle bayfront and posibly Portland and even San Deigo Califonia, may be my first choice if it wasent for suposed loose grounds in the event of an earthquake.
Thanks for the help!

Don't worry, you will find things to do in Aventura, just west of Sunny Isles Beach. You can live in Sunny Isles and have fun in Aventura.
