The thing is, you guys are just generalizing one genre of hip-hop, called "gangsta rap". If you listen to Dead Prez the messages are to work your way out of a poor setting and to strive for your best.

There are plenty of entertaining artists that don't rely on cheap shock gimmicks to get your attention. Just listen to Public Enemy, the Pharcyde, Shootyz Groove, 2 Skinne J's, Gang Starr, Aesop Rock, etc.

if i had no money and was hungry would i rob someone? of course. is this because of rap music? no. go back to ancient times and if you can't find food and this other cave man has food and you're hungry you're gonna rob him. does this mean cavemen where thugs? no. it means they did what they had to do to stay alive.

i have a lot of songs that mention getting into the "game" (selling for those who are unfamiliar) is not worth it, and although most mainstream rappers glorify this a lot of them are actually fake. if i had no job and couldn't find one and the option was presented - why not. jfk's family got up by slanging why can't i. THAT. that is the hood mentality.

Rather than rob someone, how about get a job? Most ppl that are hungry are hungry because of their own decisions.
I live in cincinnati and my wife is expecting to transfer down to Miami before long, You guys are painting a pretty ugly picture of the area. I hope you are exaggerating. Cincinnati, like many other areas, has terrible crime ridden areas, but most big city crime is drug dealer on drug dealer, or black on black crime, most ppl have no reason to be in bad areas unless they are looking for drugs, prostitutes.

don't listen to half of these bloggers any city you go to there are going to be good and bad areas just use common sense like you would when you leave your house in the morning.i live in the city and i know where to go and where not to go and it's that simple.you wanna move?move to your liking and that's it, you like trash you move in with trash, you want decent blue collar people? you can find that to,you want high class?you move with high class.it's simple just check the area yourself.

Nonsense, the five best are

1. Key Biscayne
2. Coral Gables
3. Aventura
4. Sunny Isels Beach / Golden Beach
5. Weston

but I can personally tell you that Miami Lakes and Miami Gardens are wonderful places to live in. People usually associate Miami Gardens with the slums but let me assure you that Miami Gardens has an EXTREMELY good side and an EXTREMELY bad side. Of course, you don't want to live in the bad side of the city but the good side has nothing to envy Coral Gables or Miami Lakes. Take a trip to this side and all you'll see are the extremely expensive houses with the extremely clean street and their markets.

I've been through Miami Gardens many times but have only seen the bad. Where is the "EXTREMELY good side" located?

The good part of the Miami Gardens area (but not Miami Gardens itself) is the Palm Springs North and Country Club sections of unincorporated NW Miami-Dade between Hialeah/MiamiLakes and Miramar.

My point exactly. That's not in Miami Gardens at all.

WEll, I lived in Sunny Isles...so I am partial..but I think it's the best neighborhood to live. It's on the beach, you can get affordable condos now on the West side of Collins...You can walk around at any time, day or night.
Aventura is a neighboring area as well as Bal Harbour
Coral Gables is also nice.
I'm a transplant so I can't really suggest anything else.

I agree with the other posters who listed the bad areas.

But I will add...coming from NYC and the Bronx, the bad areas of Bronx and some of Manhattan make the slum areas of Miami look like Disney land...

So all of this is relative.
