You can take the train safely you should just avoid Overtown. It is not a BAD place per say . Just a working class neighborhood where a few bad apples spoil the bunch...If i ever win the lottery I would most definitly invest it in the nieghborhood Overtown. Schools , After School Programs , Adult Education , Post -Jail Training & Services, Neighborhood Revitalization Programs, Community Involvement Projects...this is what this place needs ! Everyone on this crap is talking about how it is bad and how this and it is that but how about YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !

Im thinking of moving to Miami, from Indiana. I have to say that other than some places in LA, and Baltimore. The Gary, Ind, East Chicago area may be one of the worst in the US, per capita cause only 130,000 people live in the 2 cites and the murder rate is almost 9x the national avg.
So if I move to MIA I will no how to avoid danger I hope. Is Homestead good I might move there? And also I am used to Chicago, Indianapolis, downtown areas like that, where its bad in the neighborhoods surrounding downtown, but in downtown you are cool going the clubs and stuff. Is downtown that bad in MIA that people dont go at night to clubs or all the clubs on south beach. And Im not talkin' hood clubs I'm talkin' more grown up type stuff.

Homestead is far from anything and there is nothing to do there. South Beach is safe at night and very touristy so there is a large police presence. Downtown is a little sketchy so you have to be more careful.

So far I have a pretty clear picture of how the neighborhoods stack up.
Does anyone have any suggestions on which of those cities be the best to send a kid to school?
I know just because city may be nice to live in...that doesn't mean that it's not surrounded by less than desirable neighborhoods that negatively impact it's schools.
Thanks in advance

Weston, although it's not a Miami neighborhood like all of those people listed for some reason. One of the elementary schools is blue ribbon...

Aventura is in North East Dade county and again is not part of Miami , closer to Miami Beach , very affluent , very New York Jewish , very wealthy South American .
Ditto for Sunny Isles and Golden Beach ... these are not part of or have any connection to the City Of Miami !!
Weston is in Broward County and nearly 16 miles to the Broward / Dade county line , is an affluent city with its own city government , much more "Anglo" than anywhere in Miami nearly 55% of the population with the rest being professional , educated Hispanics from Brazil , Argentina , Venezuela , Chile and Colombia .... and with a surprisingly very , very small Cuban population ( less than 5% )
I am glad you like these places but none other than Key Biscayne are in the actual City of Miami , man I hope you are not a local as it is the only way you can be forgiven for your ignorance on the topic

Omg I think you people what get it by now. Basically when people talk about Miami they're including the entire MIAMI-dade county unless otherwise stated. I think everyone knows Coral Gables is a seperate city than Miami, HOWEVER, it is in MIAMI-dade county so it is safe to say it is part of the Miami metro area. When people say Los Angeles they also include Compton even know it's a seperate city, why? Because it's in LOS ANGELES, County and part of the L.A metro. When people say Miami they rarely mean only the city of Miami because Miami only has 400,000 people while the Miami Metro has 5 million. Also with names like North Miami, South Miami, South-Miami Heights, Miami Beach, West Miami, North Miami beach, Miami Springs, Miami Shores, Miami Lakes, it's safe to call those places Miami. I hate when people try to act like a smart ass and have no idea what they're talking about.
