I just know it from driving through the area. It looks nice, but it seems to have a terrible flooding problem (or at lest it did a few years ago). When it rains hard, a lot of the streets become submerged.

I live on the bay side of South Beach though, so I'm not gloating. you should see 14th St., west of West Ave., after a big storm. It's a pond.

Hialeah isn't dangerous per se, but it's an extremely ugly place, filled with ugly people (ugly on the inside).

wow! ugly on the inside? I couldn't disagree with you more. nothing but mostly fine people in hialeah.

I was testing a 1964 impala that we had just finished a frame off restoration on. I ran out of gas on W. 61 place and about 13th ave. as I'm considering my options (back before cell phones and such) a resident steps out of his house curious as to what I was doing. we talked cars a bit and he gave me a few gallons of gas he for his mower then sent me on my way.

I have lots of other anecdotes of that type from hialeah and elsewhere.

are you sure that perhaps what you are seeing in others might not be a reflection of yourself? I hope not!

I'm assuming you will be staying on the beach. if you are arriving at MIA take a taxi to your hotel on the beach. if you rent a car do so from your hotel on the beach. there is no area in miami which you need to fear unless you stop in the the black neighborhoods and start asking for directions. you might be unlucky and find one of the few people who mean to do anyone harm.

if you use your common sense and stay away from the neighborhoods ringing the center of the city full of black people you will be fine. not everyone in those neighborhoods mean to do harm but there are those that do and will. since you never know who is who it is wiser to avoid the areas altogether.

there are plenty of places you can be out at night with no one bothering you, especially on the beach.

Allapattah, Liberty City, Opa Locka, Overtown, Little havanah (all of which are part of the city of Miami). These are the worst for crime.

Heard that an area called Pork & Beans was fairly rough too. Not sure exactly where that is and I know Miami pretty well.

Happy Holidays!
