Smile North Miami questions

We're planing a house hunting trip to Miami in the next couple of weeks. So far, North Miami seems to be the area we're looking for to buy a townhouse. All our activities seem to be in the area and properties seem to be reasonably priced ($150 or so for a 2b/2ba townhouse). We don't have kids so schools aren't an issue.

What areas in North Miami have a neighborhood feel - one where you can bike or walk to restaurants, grocery store, etc? Please be as specific as you can!

Is the area close to the Spanish Monastary decent?

Thanks!

Some people don't read opening statements very well. Not that I am from Miami, but most of North Miami is not ghetto, there are nice areas such as Miami Lakes ,Miami Spings ,Miami Shores, Aventura, City of North Miami to name a few which have a neighborhood feel, but I highly doubt that you will find Townhouses priced at what you have quoted.

You will want to stay away from area such as Opa-Locka(especially the Triangle)and Carol City which is an area of Miami Gardens.

Anybody who has the advantage in life of being able to use a computer, much less visit a forum like City-Data, is not dumb enough to need to be told to stay away from the areas you just mentioned. (OP these areas are the worst of the worst!)

North Miami is a city, not an area. North Miami Beach is also a city, located just north of North Miami, and it is slightly better, though you wouldn't know it from driving through it. Both areas are bad in my opinion due to crime, low intellect, and general trash that has been moving into that area the last few years, especially people displaced from other parts of the county like downtown... However, if your budget is limited to $150,000 for a condo, you will probably be able to find something in that area for the price... I do believe there are condos in the $120's up there; not sure if they are 2 bedrooms though...
