I have to cut my own hair now. Everytime I've paid for a haircut here I end up going home and shaving my head!

I for one notice this too.

I speak some Spanish, but I dont like doing it. I grew up and lived in the area and attended college at FIU. Ive noticed that one can easily get by speaking just English. Most people in Dade County can speak English. Even most people in Miami can. Theres just a little section of Little Havana, maybe a few blocks, where they pride themselves in not speaking English, almost as if sort of a tourist appeal.

The problems of Miami stem from economical matters to me. The area is pricing out its middle class in an effort to woe Condo developers. Unfortuanely this is just driving up home prices and these condos are not selling like some people hope they are. And its polarizing the community.

"where they pride themselves in not speaking English"

hah its more than just little havana. ive never even been to little havana.

the thing is its getting difficult to live here without cheating the system. when we were down in condos close to florida city thats what everyone was doing. taking half their pay in cash under the table and half in paycheck so they could get welfare too. foodstamps, etc it was all being used down there. long grocery checkout lines with everyone holding their american flag welfare debit card. i wish i had a camera phone so i couldve taken a picture of that. some people had a welfare card, credit card and a wad of 20s.
i dont know how theyre doing it but i cant imagine its legal.

It depends, if you look hispanic most likely hispanics that speak spanish mostly, will speak spanish to you first. My sister looks hispanic so they usually speak spanish to her first. But if you do not look hispanic, they will speak in english to you if they know how to speak english, or they will ask you do you speak spanish, or they will not even talk to you.
