Manny Diaz
Part of the Cosa Nostra or whatever you guys call it. What do you guys think of him, he constantly gets the media attention, he's been called the nations green mayor, president of the Conference of Mayors, being considered for a position in the Obama administration (either HUD, Transportation, or Urban Policy offices) and today US News & World Report names him amongst 24 of America's Best Leaders for bringing development, fighting crime, bringing down poverty, and improving services.
Im not as cynical about Politics as some of you, but I surely respect the man, he became mayor when the city was broke (right?) and the city has pretty succesful management and solid economically, while you have cities like Atlanta, Philly, Detroit and Pheonix asking the federal goverment for a bailout!?
Some of you might know more, so....

Remember that Simpson's when Homer goes to a chiropractor and afterwards says "It's a little better"??
I think it's kind of like that, Manny Diaz is a little better!

"Money" Diaz is always looking for the latest gravy train. Of course Miami went from bankrupt to solvent with the flood of property tax money from the real estate bubble. The ludicrous "master plan" with a tunnel of debt and the white elephant baseball stadium is total insanity. WHen property values finally start falling, expect the pro-development miami attitude to bring failure and another bankrupt city. I agree that Manny is a "green" mayor, he always goes where the green is.

I think good things have happened under Manuel Diaz, but I don't think the good things were necessarily a result of his actions. Also, with all the new property tax revenue flowing in, I don't see ANY improvements in the poorer areas.

I dont think there is a single "Don" in the political Cosa Nostra (Mayors )who could care less about the poor and lower middle class here in S.Florida.
Speeches don't count ONLY action. Thus he is no different as far as that goes.

Yes ,what you say is true but overall IMO he is slightly better than the other "Dons" .
He is by far the most media savvy ,articulate, best actor in the Cosa Nostra . GREAT speeches and charasmatic but that doesnt improve a thing.
He promices every thing and any thing while not deliverying much if anything at all in last few yrs.
The media loves him but speeches don't fool me as his actual actions are weak but better than most of the other "Dons" which doesnt say much.

lol I think I am only one who uses that term as I do find S.Florida politicians to have the "This thing of ours" mentality.

I agree he is a little better just alittle . He does one thing which right away makes me go hmmm .
He is always talking about Cuba .
Problem with that is he wants others to look at Cuba not at his lack of action as far as Miami goes.
A Miami Mayor needs to look at Miami not Cuba and those who support him need to do the same. A Mayor has ZERO input when it comes to Cuba.
There is a cartoon about Miami. It shows an elderly Cuban couple standing on the beach looking in Cuba's direction.
Behind them is a well dressed politician who is yeling " Look at Cuba ,just look at Cuba don't look at Miami".
While they look across the water his hands are in the mans wallet and the womans purse.
