that's because Umjoa Village does not exist. It was only for a short period of time when a lot of people lost their house. The city put an end to that.

Well, Umjoa Village was just one photo... I'm not sure what happened to the others. I posted more this morning and when I checked it now they're gone.

Of course no matter where I go I am always weary of my surroundings. So I look around. But they are OK. Some might not be the most visually attractive of the bunch however.
lol, take the MLK exit coming from downtown (62nd st.)

i am positive you wouldn't just take a walk there at night, i wouldn't even want to drive through there.

I'm not denying Miami has place like that, trust me I've been in some really bad parts of Overtown that look just as bad as the Umjoa pics =p

Detroit is a dead city, and will not be revived in our lifetime, which is too bad because it really could be a nice city.

There's actually a pretty cool on line tour called "The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit":

Miami neighborhoods might be run down to the point of third world looking (and yes legitimately third world), but from my experience they seemed different from poverty stricken areas of other cities in the US. I passed through heavily Jamaican, Haitian and Cuban areas on a bus (79th street) and while the some neighborhoods looked identical to Jamaica (I've seen the country alot, my brother lives there) the people were friendly and minded their own business, no out of the ordinary "dirty" looks or stares, and being a light skinned Mexican, I stood out. These people in these areas have a different mind set, and different expectations of their lifestyles than the average American, and so just because their impoverished, they still live a better lifestyle than they would in their home country, trust me, therefore they're not so full of hate and anger like in other American cities. This is just from a couple of my experiences though, and its kinda generilizing, so maybe somebody else could shed some more light.

I too moved here from Michigan and have been to Detroit many many times. The best thing that could happen to that city is for it to disappear somehow forever. It's a pile and will remain a pile for decades into the future. That being said..... I moved here in July of 08 and have driven EVERYWHERE! I a 26 yr old white guy who felt very threatened in some neighborhoods here. Im not saying that being a different race was the factor, but I'm sure it didn't help. There are many many places you can go here and walk around by yourself. I do it all the time, and at night too. South Beach, Coral Gables, Doral, Cutler Bay, Kenddall and The Grove to name a few. But you have to remember that something bad can happen anywhere. Oh, did I mention that I have my concealed pistol license and dont leave the house without my gun? That helps too. Ya just never know what can happen no matter where you go!

Miami is the seventh most angriest city in the U.S.

Jacksonville is actually a happier Florida city...
