Since you mention the Hispanic influence, have you ever been to the Hispanic sections of West Palm Beach? Would you consider those "snobby" too?

True, the rich, snobby attitude can be found in almost any city. But I feel ur forced to come into contact with it more in West Palm Beach due to its proximity to Palm Beach (ie you can the see the parallel universes come into contact with each other in CityPlace). Miami is such a big city (at least in area) that I have not really come into contact with those folk too much, unless I'm around one the wealthier neighborhoods. Everyone's experience is different though.
But actually no, I haven't been to any hispanic areas of West Palm. Where are they located? I wasn't even aware they existed. I always thought that most of the hispanics were down by Lake Worth, lol.

That's because you live in downtown West Palm Beach, where a mere body of water divides the average folks with the wealthy ones. I live in eastern West Palm Beach (on Palm Beach Lakes Blvd.) and that snobbishness does not exist here.
The Hispanic areas run throughout the area around Forest Hill Blvd. and south of that. The cities in those areas (West Palm Beach, Greenacres, Lake Worth, Lake Worth Corridor, and Palm Springs) are where the major Hispanic populations lie. However, there are other areas too, such as S. Dixie Highway which is around 60-70% Cuban and 20% Colombian.
Check out the Sunshine International Market which is in West Palm Plaza. It's a flea market that will give you a taste of what the area is like. The address is 1941 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415. It definitely helps to know Spanish though because not all of the vendors there are English speakers.

When I see a post that seems FOS, I'll call that person out, whether it's "Everyone in Doral speaks Spanish" "Driving in Miami is the most dangerous" or "German golfers waiting for a bus in Doral."
There are opinions, ("I don't like SoFla") and there are quantifiable facts.
Fixing the problems that Miami & SoFla has (EVERY place has problems, including us) requires honesty, not hyperbole.

Hi,
For those complaining about the overtaking of Spanish language in Florida, I have something that will make you feel alot better.
Lived in Miami before, not latino, but here in Spain now working in hospitality. There is NO ONE (almost) who works in this field here who is Spanish, so the locals have to get used to being served with people speaking poor Spanish even in Spain. Kind of the opposite of Miami, really. There are zones where basically only Portugese (brazilian variety) or English are spoken, even whole towns!
I guess Miami is not unique in this respect?

A lot of what you said sounds dead on. Someone coming from LA might hate Denver, vice versa. I have no idea if I'll really love and/or fit in to Miami, but I'm going to give it a try. I'm sick of my scenery now and would love to live life elsewhere. There are plenty of rude people here, sometimes people's definition of rude can be very different too.

That whole snooty, "I'm better than you attitude" gets to me way more than the kinda "I'm hard and tough" attitude you can find with some people down in Miami. Now Miami has that snooty attitude concentrated in certain areas, but most of the city has a more laid back attitude compared to the uptight people in Palm Beach who think they are better than u, even if u do get the thug once in a while who's tryina act hard (even though u can find that in WPB too). People say that people in Miami are rude, which can be true depending on where u come from, but comin from Chicago, I didn't find the attitude too out of the ordinary from any other big city. It really all depends on ur opinion and what types of attitudes bother u more, with me, it's the stuck up, elite, rich, snooty attitude from the wealthy folks.
Now regarding Spanish, Chicago is around 25%-30% hispanic, so u hear it alot. Now u may hear it more in Miami, but everyone usually speaks English (with some exceptions in certain areas like Hialeah sometimes), so to me bein in some parts in Miami was no more different than bein in a hispanic influenced neighborhood in Chicago. It's different depending on what neighborhood ur in, just like any other big city. It seems tolerable to some, and intolerable to others.

I agree with that . . . and I'm serious about it, too.
Two thousand years ago none of us would have been speaking English or Spanish. Languages change. Cultures change. I have no problem with change, and I have no problem attempting to speak Spanish if most folks around me would rather speak Spanish and I want to communicate with them.

Excellent post. Communication is what is isolating us, rather lack of communication. I wish there were more of us than them....

You should check out Citrus County, north of Tampa if you want to live in a place where people are friendly to eachother, don't honk at lights, say Please and Thank you and smile. Our home prices are low and their are not strip malls at every traffic light. If you want natural and beautiful, check this area out!

For the record, if someone is sitting at a green light, or stop at yellow they deserve to be honked at.
