Happy New Year
Many ... not all.
I am very supportive of the immigrant groups here.

I prefer Miami over LA, because I am a Spanish speaker and I prefer to speak and write in Spanish at work.
I have a professional job (finance), and Miami is the only US city I know (outside of Puerto Rico) where we have many companies that conduct most of our daily affairs in Spanish.
Plus we are not ostracized for doing it (you know what I'm talking about), because we are the clear majority here.
Seeing that LA is still anglo Moderator cut: racist dominated in the business world, I am sure that while the weather and geography is better, culturally speaking Miami is more suitable for Spanish speakers who hold professional jobs.
We can be free here. Here in Miami we can truly practice the First Amendment, more so than any other US city outside of PR. Most anglo Moderator cut: racist would prefer we not be permitted to speak in whatever language we want. They only want the First Amendment for themselves, but not to immigrants.

If the anglos Moderator cut: racist don't like it here in Miami, they can just move to Broward or better yet North Carolina.
They have a lot more choices than we do, even if it's true that Broward is being turned into another Miami. We already have taken over a large part of Broward. But still, anglo Moderator cut: racist seem to love North Carolina. I don't understand why they just don't move to Jacksonville instead (closer and better weather).

Slowly but surely the Spanish speaking people here are making progress.
In LA we'd all have to adapt to the Moderator cut: racist anglo culture in the business world. That would royally suck.
In Miami we rule (and soon we will rule in Broward), so we don't have to adapt. The Moderator cut: racist /anglos are the ones who have to adapt to us.
That's why Miami is better than LA!

You forget that no matter how hispanic saturated South Florida becomes, The State of Florida is still in the United States and the United States speaks english.

I found it interesting that to become a legal citizen of Mexico, You MUST be fluent in spanish..

That should be the case in any country. In order to be granted citizenship (or even permanent residence), you should pass a stringent language test, so that you can prove your fluency of that particular country's official/most recognized language. It's all about respect, at the end of the day. No one should feel FORCED to learn another language to move to any part of the United States.

Hahah not true at all. Even in most of Miami you don't need to learn Spanish. Most of the second and third generation Hispanics speak English fluently and some might even if have trouble speaking spanish.

Speaking Spanish might help you get a better job or making some social situiations easier but it certinally isn't a necessity unless you're living in communities like Sweetwater, Hialeah, or Little Havana.

What culture does LA possess other than movie and p*rn? I don't think theme parks constitute culture. The comment about LA's architectural superiority is ridiculous too.

People who comment that it's so great to be able to go from surfing at the beach at 6am and snowboarding at 12pm are LA/Socal people who most likely do neither. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should.

Southern California beaches are inferior to Florida beaches in every meaningful category EXCEPT waves. Socal wins there hand's down. But have fun squeezing in to that full body wetsuit to take advantage of those waves...

I think the normal suntanning at the Socal beaches ends in October and begins again in April. I think you can go to the beaches in Miami year round...except for the 2 or 3 yearly cool blasts such as right now...

You have obviously never been to LA and are completely ignorant to the city (and it seems most people on CD don't have a clue about LA other than what they see portrayed on TV), or, you're just what they call a "hater." In either case, your comments and sentiment about LA are WAY off.

The kind person who pointed out that Miami's architecture consists solely of Art Deco obviously either:
1.) Hasn't spent much time in Viscaya, Coral Gables, Las Olas riverfront, ect., OR
2.) Is under the impression that SoBe is all there is in South Florida.

Don't get me wrong, I really LIKE Miami but in these two areas (esp. culture which I will address below). It's really a lazy stereotype to claim LA is just movies, porn, and theme parks, etc.

I think a STRONG case is made for LA over Miami with regards to arts/culture.

All of the following museums with national reputations are located in LA County:

Within the City of Los Angeles:
-Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)
-Museum of Contempoary Art (MOCA)
-Getty Center for the Arts
-Geffen Contemporary Museum of Art

-Norton Simon Museum (Pasadena, CA)
-Huntington Library and Botanical Garden (San Marino, CA)

Miami has nothing that compares to any of these....

Also, the LA Philharmonic is one of the world's LEADING and CUTTING EDGE symphonies. The head conductor is a 28 yr old wunderkind named Dudamel orginally from Venezuela. Before that we had Solonen from Finland, another genius.

Granted, LA is much bigger than Miami so it naturally has more cultural institutions than Miami. So maybe it's not a fair comparison....
