JollyFatGuy is on a distinguished road
I grew up in Kendall; went to Kenwood Elementary; think my address was 9020 S. 80th Ave; got drafted in 1969 and haven't be back. I remeber when they built Dadeland and the freeway; we use to mess around in the construction areas. What is it like now?

"Downtown Kendall" (which centers around the intersection of Kendall Drive and US1, near Dadeland Boulevard) now has a mini skyline of its own. East/Central Kendall is still a fairly desirable place to live, and West Kendall in some spots goes out as far as SW 167th Avenue! A good way to see how Kendall looks nowadays is the Google Maps "Street View" feature. Here is the address you gave: 9020 SW 80th Ave miami fl - Google Maps

I went to Kenwood, Glades, Killian.

Around 1970 or so they put a roof on Dadeland, and expanded it, so there would be a third anchor, JC Penney, in addition to Burdines and Jordan Marsh. Not sure when Dadeland Towers (across Kendall Drive from Dadeland, behind the Medical building) was built, but I worked there for a summer in 1977, during high school. It's been replaced by a bunch of big office buildings ("downtown Kendall").

Shorty's is still near there, on U.S. 1.

West of 107th Ave. seemed pretty far out back then, at least to us.
