I am looking for a 3 bedroom home (townhouse or house) to rent in miami (not too far from I-95), preferably for move-in by Jan 15th. I can pay up to $900 rent.

What kind of neighborhood are you willing to put up with? You can get a decent 1br apartment for $900, but a 3br will cost at least $1,500 in a safe and desirable neighborhood. Two grand is a more reasonable figure.

I don't believe such a thing exists. If you do find it, please let us know.

Really, they are telling you the truth. We left a year ago but have friends there that are grateful to find a two bedroom at $1100 a month in a half way decent neighborhood. Real estate taxes there drove up all rental prices like crazy.

Renters don't care how much the landlord pays in property tax. Landlords will charge as much as the market will allow (that is, how much renters are willing to pay). If supply and demand applies anywhere, it applies to the home rental market (unless landlords don't mind sitting on empty property).
The population of Miami-Dade hasn't gone way down, but the number of people willing or able to buy property has. That has put pressure on the rental market. Maybe rental prices will really start dropping as more finished condo units come on line, and as sellers who are unable to sell put their properties up for rent.
In any case, don't be fooled by asking prices for rent. Everything is negotiable.

Also, just because the rent is low is not always a good deal or bargain. Make sure the property you are renting is not in foreclosure, or you might find yourself in a cheap rental but be forced with having to move. The people renting might be willing to take any amount of money and put it in their pocket and not pay the bank and you could be the one evicted.

That's all true, but if you know that the property is foreclosed, and you don't mind possibly having to move on short notice, then it might be a decent gamble (if you don't have to move a whole house of furniture in and out).
