Lost?! In Hialeah?!!! No Way!!!!!
I used to live in Miami Lakes, which is a stone's throw away from Hialeah so I would go to Hialeah a lot because some shopping was a lot closer. And I would always get lost. There's no rhyme or reason to that place.
How in the world can you get lost in Hialeah?! It has the simplest street numbering system in the county. You are either east or west of Palm Avenue. There are no NW, SW, NE, or SW's to deal with except for one crazy little triangle at the southeast corner of the city.
In fact the street numbering system in Hialeah is the only one that makes sense. There are eight city blocks to the mile in the east-west direction (the avenues). In Hialeah you will find eight avenues span a mile, e.g., it is one mile from Palm Avenue to East Eighth Avenue.
But in the rest of Dade County the streets are numbered so that there are ten avenues to the mile, e.g. it is one mile from NW 27 AVE to NW 37 AVE. How do they resolve this? Simple they jamb in little mini blocks to fill out the numbers. Sometimes avenues are just missing. I defy you to find NW 16th AVE between NW 54 St and NW 62 St., it "ain't" there. look at a map if you don't believe me.
If you are getting lost in Hialeah, You had better stay away from Miami Springs, Coral Gables, and all of Broward County many streets have no numbers, numbering systems start over in every city, and some sttreets abruptly change names for no reason).
And how in the world do you navigate in Miami Lakes with the winding streets and lack of rhyme or reason to the streets? Miami Lakes is the only place I know of where you can make two right turns and end up back on you original street traveling in the same direction. Try it. drive south on Ludlum Rd. turn right on West Miami Lakeway and follow it around until you are back at Ludlum. A second right turn puts you back on Ludlum travelling south again. If you continue on until you reach Ludlum a second time, your second right turn puts you back on Ludlum Rd. traveling north.
As much as I dislike Hialeah, I have to defend it's street numbering system which makes it the least likely place to get lost.

Hialeah had a chance to go upscale!
When Hialeah annexed the land west of the Palmetto Expressway, plans were submitted to the city commission for its development. One plan was going to emulate Miami Lakes, with large houses, lakes, walking and bicycle paths, and parks everywhere. But, the commission decided to go with the high density barrio that is there now. More money in the developer's pockets (dare we say commissioners' pockets too) putting several small units on a lot instead of one large house. Sigh, Hialeah had its chance and blew it!

All you have to do when entering Hialeah from the east or the west is to subtract 54 so if you are on 103rd in Miami then you are on 49 th street in Hialeah and then you would do the opposite leaving Hialeah just add back the 54 to the present street you happen to be driving on.
I believe Coral Gables is one of the most confusing cities to drive in,they have that roundabout street plus they put the names of the street on a stone placed on the ground.

There are bigger problems to consider
I have lived in Hialeah since 1964. I have seen the good and the bad. I have also seen many prominent Americans that call themselves Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, etc., and not just "Americans." This does not imply that they are not proud of this country. This just means that you never forget your roots, and you bring honor to them when referring to yourself as I do, a Cuban-American. The only "real" Americans are the American Indians.
If you think Hialeah is ghetto, crime-ridden and uncivilized, why don't you visit the other cities in Dade-County like Opa-Locka, Carol City, Liberty City or Overtown? There are no Latin American immigrants in these neighborhoods but yet here lie the greatest leeches, the greatest crimes and the greatest dangers of our society. The people living in those neighborhoods are the ones that our tax dollars are supporting. Those are the people who receive the food stamps, the welfare checks, the free health care at Jackson Hospital, and every other possible government assistance that they can get their hands on. And believe me, they know them all. This is what we have to do something about. This country has to stop creating an incentive for people not to work and live off the government. Accountability for government assistance would be a start. Do you wonder why all minorities, except the Cubans, vote Democrat?
My parents chose to come to the US to escape a communist regime that is so oppressive that you would only understand it if you lived in it. My parents chose FREEDOM, leaving their homeland behind. We are forever grateful that this great country took us in and allowed us to build a life for ourselves. My family learned the language, worked multiple jobs, and never, not once, accepted a penny from the US government. It was through hard work and sweat that my family was able to live the "American Dream."
Yes, let's defend what we have, what we have created. Let's stop giving our money to the ''leeches." It they don't want to work, they should be sent back to their country of origin. If you chose the United States of America, WORK HARD and LOVE IT, or leave it.

Aaah Hialeah, one of the worst towns I've been to in my twenty
six years of living in the mother earth. It's full of obnoxious people,
who scream when they're having a conversation (If you want to call
it that), and you can hear them all across god damn Miami. I've seen
people fighting on the corner of a street, I've seen people throw
the foam plate after they eat from their car straight in to the street
(Opening the window and then with no shame at all dumping it in the
middle of the road). When I went to Publix the first time, no one spoke
English, and they looked at me with this face like I was an alien,
horrendous customer service like all of Miami.

Sounds pretty horrible. Are you from Miami? It's like night and day here. I don't recommend going to places like that unless you fit in with the crowd. I don't go there (Hialeah) unless I have to.

Isn't there a poster here (TannerMan) who lives in Hialeah and doesn't speak any Spanish?
Lord forbid I should ever step foot in Hialeah and open my mouth, in English no less.
Isn't the Walmart on Okechobee Hialeah?? Darn, need to go down to Florida City or something now.

I know plenty of places in Miami that people fight in the street. The areas are also filled with litter, and even feces. When you walk along a strip mall, you can smell the urine from people who dont even bother using a restroom. And guess what??? The people in these areas speak English.
