Yes, El Centro Español, you're totally right.
What became of it?
The patrons of Centro Español were mostly Cubanazos, old Spaniards, nice and educated people. Very good dancers.
I guess that all that world is gone.

Leo,
EL Centro Espanol had a long run. It was everything from the club that you are describing, to a gay club, and even a strip joint. My mother worked in the kitchen back in the early 80's. The owner was accused of murder or something like that. It was a shady place but like you said LOTS of fun.

The race track, or a part of it, does open for special events.
What about Amelia Earhart park? Isn't that in Hialeah?
When I was growing up the slogan I used to hear about Hialeah was:
Hialeah, ciudad de fango y factoria (city of mud and factories).

I think that if every cuban that has come in the last 20 years or so leave back to Cuba, Hialeah would be a MUCH better place. I'm not against cubans, but my goodness.. most of the recently arrived ones are abnormally obnoxious, rude to say the least, have no morals and respect. They have no class what so ever. I think that's the MAIN problem Hialeah has.

Hialeah is retarded
I've been here for a LONG TIME. Hialeah police aren't crooked or anything, they do their job well, which is why they are always hassling me even though I've done nothing. There is something else distinct about hialeah.....FAT PPL. Yes, there are too many fat ppl, and fat ppl don't like walking. Typing is exhausting, I'm gonna head over to the vakita for some pan con queso.

Wow..what a wonderful, well thought out insight into Hialeah life </sar-casm>.
You could have complained about the fact that there are few trees, or that Westland Mall is a big ol' pile of s**t, but you had to pick on the obese....but you know what? A small part of me agrees with you, since Hialeah is probably the LEAST walkable part of Miami-Dade.

hialeah is a major city with a population in excess of 200,000 from all over the world. hialeah probably has more sidewalks than any other miami suburb, hialeah has a great parks and recreations department. the hialeah police department is as diverse as any in the county and representative of it's population.
hialeah is a great place to live, work and to raise a family in.
