This survey really surprises me, I would disagree with it. I have never lived in Miami, but I have visited there. The only possible explanation for this would be the older crowd. The younger crowd there seemed to be more in shape.

Also I know of very few hispanic females who are overwieght, and even fewer males that are overweight.

I would never in a million years think Miami would make that list.

lovethetruth> I would disagree with it.

The overweight demographic tends to be older people (not the really elderly), African-American women, and people who don't live on Miami Beach. In any case I'll bet you didn't spend much time in Miami proper (the actual city).

You are right, I haven't.

So what are the demographics of Miami (the city proper?)

I'll take the heat over cold anyday.

They would appreciate the heat if they had to deal with subzero temps and windchills of -20 like we can get here.

What a crock! The survey doesn't look at the average weight, or BMI, to gather it's supposed 'data', but uses only how many fast foods are available, and number of proportion of parks, gyms, etc. Miami is FAR from being the fattest city, wayyy far from it.

I have no idea how one would obtain something like the BMI numbers for a particular geographical area. I do think the magazine's methodology of determining the "fattest city" is questionable, although the article does raise some interesting issues.

Me to, and I have. Unless it's unusually hot (by Miami standards), the heat doesn't bother me very much. I'm resigned to the fact that you're not going to take a brisk mile-long walk in Miami in the summer, and wear the same clothes to work/dinner/etc. Compared to trudging through slush, it's not so bad.

Miami has more gyms per capita than any other city in the country and they are ALL packed everyday of the week! You go to the parks, any park they are full of people jogging in the morning and evening. The beach, the cycling, and the crazy athletism of this town and now its being called fat? I dont buy it for a second.
