The projects were created to keep the rich feeling that way and to keep the those already down in the dirt even further down.

I think they were created to enable mass disenfranchisement amongst minority males in particular.

by "busting" young men early and hitting them with a felony you virtually guarantee they will never get a good job or have a chance to vote.

so the power structure remains how it was since they freed the slaves.
.....works great on Hispanics too....

I haven't seen the series but Miami has many seedy places, not just liberty city. Think Overtown, Alapatta, Brownsville, Goulds, Naranja, Little havana, downtown and some parts of the Grove, Downtown, South Miami, Grove, Hialeah, north Miami Beach etc.

And schools are bad. I really don't think I would like to raise a family here as much as I love the sunsets, the keys and the everglades.

Having said that I never been robbed or harrassed (but a family member was robbed at gunpoint like 12 years ago, Coral Gables/ South Miami area) . I haven't seen gangs on the street like I did in SF and LA, so maybe is safer, who knows.

I haven't seen it but, judging from the comments about it here, I'll bet Miami Vice was much better.

Miami Vice was fictional. The first 48 is a real show like INvestigative Reports or other real-life crime shows.

The actual city of Miami has its bad spots overtown, Liberty City, parts of Little Havana. But this is only Miami PD so you wont see Carol City, Opa Lacka, Miami Gardens, North Miami etc..
For the most part crime in Miami has been getting better and its continuing to get better. I live near little Haiti and not to far from Liberty City. Do I ever feel unsafe in my area, No. Just like any other city in the US stay in the good parts and its fine.

Are you sure? I saw an episode that had a murder on Miami beach so it's not just Dade-County police I think.

I like the series and i think it is a good show. I think it shows the areas not to be involved with in Miami because it often has cases involving the same places. There are some gangs in Miami, and there is Ms-13 but they arent too big of a presence. But the gang issue deffinately isnt a big a problem as L.A or other cities. And in most the cases you will notice that it is drug relaed or the killer knew the person they killed. So yeah thats just my opinion!

PS- About that episode in Miami Beach, I think i know what you're talking about, but if it is then the place where the crime took place want at the beach it was near it, but still in the city of miami limits. But most of that episode took place at the beach though.
