BTW, to those who say this is a problem everywhere (a problem like it is in Miami), take it from someone who has driven extensively in many major cities here in the US and Europe, MiaME drivers are by far the worst I've ever seen.
As for the scum who killed that 11 year old girl 2 weeks ago: death penalty. The scum who killed that poor doctor crossing the street in Brickell: death penalty. The scum who killed 3 children last weekend in SW Dade; death penalty (a slow fry in the electric chair, no quick death for you).
I would love to be the judge, jury and executioner in these hit and run cases. They wouldn't get off with a slap on the wrist and a stupid fine like they do in this swamp town.

I want to add one more talking point to this discussion...
Have any of you been to Miami Springs / Virginia Gardens? If you have, you'll probably know that the cops there have a "reputation" for being a--holes, particularly when it comes to traffic citations. While some may see that as a bad thing, others (like me) will appreciate the fact that you see virtually NO ONE speeding or driving recklessly around Miami Springs / Virginia Gardens, making the area safe for people to walk their dogs, jog, or simply cross the street.
In other words, Miami Springs is living proof (right here in Miami) that tough-a-- law enforcement works. Even if there are no cops around, people drive with utmost caution and restraint, because they know that if one of those cops are lurking, they'll sure as hell pull them over and bust them!
We don't need more police to achieve this -- we simply need the police to start cracking down on the scumbags, building up a reputation for being a--holes when it comes to pulling people over. Eventually, word will get around and people will say "be careful not to ride it like a Ford in Miami, because the cops there are a--holes and they WILL give you a ticket (or worse) if they catch you".
If you don't believe me, try speeding down Curtiss Parkway and see what happens. You'll also notice that even the Hialeah residents using Curtiss Parkway to get home to Hialeah don't even speed (and that's saying something).

Remember that a fair trial is always required, and we must prove the intention according to our laws. Not in disagreement, just using the basic rule of the law.

Will it take one of the many Miami-driver-scumbags to "hit and run" you or someone you love for you (and so many others) to WAKE UP?
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem"
With that in mind, sweeping the problem under the rug makes you part of the problem. People who post here to express their anger and frustration on a forum read by potentially thousands of people is better than staying silent, but we really need to make ourselves heard by our politicians and law enforcement agencies.
The drivers here are so reckless that it makes going anywhere here a trying experience. I had to use one of the Deathways today and almost got rear-ended. Every day, I see multiple examples of reckless driving that could potentially cause a very major accident (I am not imagining this).
So keep sweeping the problem under the rug until it happens to YOU or someone you love, then let's see if you'll be so quick to defend the scum population of this rathole city, filled with self-absorbed maniacs.

Funny how you come to some conclusions. I have never said its not a problem, all deaths and accidents are problems no matter what circumstance! As far as I can tell I was just arguing against an article and some opinions here, thats all it is. This must be about the fifth time someone has used the same identical response to a confrontation on a disagrement here, you all just want the issue to be as sensational as possible. I now see how skewed things will continue on this website. So keep up the fantastic arrogance and pure stupidity here.
Oh, and Sunrico, It really wasn't neccessary to delete that message.
Im done with this. P/O

I agree with your post, but will add that WE are responsible for the consequences that we experienced today in Miami. Yes our Cops try their best, but we break the rules (as a society) and complaint about them.
I visited the whole state (business/pleasure) and I can see the problem in the area. But I always ask, what have I done to make it better? Maybe we can answer the question without pointing fingers to the public services.

I believe you
I believe you. I have family that have long since moved out of Miami, and they said they dont even like to go back to visit. My father in law especially. Like normal people, he cant take the arrogance and rude nature of the drivers. But he has said that he used to think south Florida was a nice place to live... WAS.

It's sad how when google searching "hit and run" accidents, that a site came up and showed a man wanted for a hit and run, who was also featured on "America's Most Wanted" and it states that this guy was living in south florida and was from NY. So he may be in Palm Bch Co or Brooklyn NY (or hiding out somewhere else). This was featured on America's Most Wanted a while ago.

On West Ave. in South beach, few cars stop for pedestrians at marked crosswalks -- including the cops -- despite the presence of signs at many of the crosswalks, indicating the fine for not stopping. The law is not enforced at all. I've complained about this to city hall, and their response was to put up a mobile sign for a couple of weeks telling drivers to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. It had no discernible effect.
What they've done is add traffic lights at more intersections, which makes driving more annoying, but also makes West Ave. less attractive for avoiding the lights on Alton Road.
I don't know why the situation has gotten so much worse the past few years, but with police not even understanding what crosswalks are for, it looks like the only solution is to put traffic lights everywhere.

^^^ He did, he tried. He just stated that in his comment above.
The problem is, some folks, especially in Miami where it seems to be more apparent, that some people just dont give a crap. Plain and simple. Miami puts the emphasis on "ME" and it is very evident there. But if you cant even get the "policia" to stop at crosswalks for the pedestrains, that's serious trouble.
