Default Commute from Coral Gables to Miami airport?

Hello,

I am relocating to Miami and have my eye on Coral Gables. Do you think this would be a tough commute to the airport? On a map it looks close, but I hear the traffic is terrible.

Thanks in advance!

It is close - depending on where in Coral Gables you live. If you live off Old Cutler Road then you will have a hard time getting to the airport as traffic is bad off US 1 and Old Cutler Road can get backed up in the mornings/evenings.

If you decide to live somewhere off Bird Road/Coral Way, traffic will be a little heavy but you'll be alot closer to the airport. Be more specific as to where in Coral Gables you'll be living for a better idea on commute times.

North Coral Gables is a hop skip and a jump to the airport (ie: south of 8th St/north of Coral Way along Lejeune). Anywhere is gonna be a bit more of a struggle. Stay away from south Coral Gables if you value a short commute to the airport.

Just went a month ago from around U of Miami (Granada) to the airport. In the map it looked like 15 minutes. It took me 40 minutes with "medium" traffic. Its bumper to bumper.
Go thru CB instead of US1.

Thanks everyone. We don't know where we'll live, because we haven't even started looking. I'm trying to keep hubby's commute on the short side.

Coral Gables is a great option for an airport commute. Other options are eastern Kendall and South Miami; you can take the Palmetto Expressway north straight to the airport from those areas. If you want to live in a planned, gated community area that is close to the airport, consider Doral.
