Just look at the Medium HouseHold Income in the City of Miami. Even small towns accross the nation make more money than this third world place.

That data doesn't tell the complete picture. That's for the City of Miami. Include the Greater Miami area and those numbers will go up.

And it's "Median" not "Medium"

What purpose does this thread serve, anyway? We know it's not a high income state in general. Just stop whining already. I've heard "third world country" 1000 times here. Just quit it already! We get it!

Most of the money in Miami is from somewhere else, or under the table. We all know that real income isn't built in this poor city. It's a pit stop for international dirty money.

I know is not the complete picture, is only for the city of Miami but dude...$23,000 average? Little Havana $15,000?? dude...add to that how expensive is life in Florida and EVEN MORE in Miami.

Millionaires + no middle class + poor class + high cost of life = Third World.

Eaglecall , tes The City of Miami is one of the poorest cities in the U.S but remember "The City of Miami " is also relatively small . When you factor in Greater Miami including Dade County the numbers change radically ... areas
such as Coral Gables , Gables Estates , Pinecrest , Key Biscayne , Aventura , Fisher Island , and Bal Harbor / Bay Harbor are not factored in hence making the place seem as poor as Guatemala City !!

There are serious levels of wealth in the area and if you factored in the above cities you easily crack the top twenty in the U.S for per capita wealth . Not defending Miami , just stating the facts .

Here is a link to the Miami-Dade County census numbers, still doesn't make the county as a whole look that great IMO. Remember these are 2000 census numbers, I am sure 6 years later it is worse, not better than these numbers. But I am sure some of you can find the bright side in anything.

A lot of them sleep like 15 to 20 in a house or apt. To make it worse, there are bars on the windows to these homes.

I remember checking out the adds for jobs about a year ago. A local bank wanted a teller to have a BA degree, must speak fluent Spanish (forget about English LOL) and the pay was a generous ten dollars an hr.!

Ok, that is the funniest thing I heard all day. I thought that was a typo but it wasn't. That really was the pay for a teller job in South Florida.

I was laughing hysterically. I thought to myself: one of my best friends, who didn't graduate high school, makes $20 an hr. I have another friend who makes more who didn't graduate high school. I did graduate high school, and went to a community college, but not a four year yet. I do plan on going to one...but I thought all of us could make better money than that. Heck, I can sit home on the computer and sell more stuff on Ebay and still make more than ten an hr. I wonder who would even consider going to college to end up with ten an hr.??? That's South Florida for ya.
