Hey Guys,

I'm looking to move from Edgewater, New Jersey where it's mostly young professionals that are single or newly married with a dog and their first BMW.

The area is great and has a Whole Foods, Starbuck, Borders, B&N, walking distance from the waterfront and located 10 to 15 minutes from NYC.

I'm looking for a nice 1 or 2 bedroom apartment/condo in a good area in Miami, Ft. Laudedale or Boca area.

Any suggestions??

Steve

If you are looking for nice I would stay out of Miami

It also depends on how much you are able to pay for rent

Rents in the NYC/NJ area start at about $1,600 and up.

The nicest areas for a person in your situation are Miami Beach, Brickell (Miami), Downtown Miami, Coconut Grove (Miami), and Coral Gables. You may also want to consider the Aventura/Sunny Isles Beach area (between Miami and Fort Lauderdale) and the Las Olas area of Fort Lauderdale.

Im from NY - unless you speak fluent spanish- stay in broward or palm beach. You will not be happy in Dade- unless you live on the beach or in aventura.

I have to disagree with this. I know several people who are happy living in and around Miami who do not speak Spanish. Considering that Miami-Dade County is only 60% "Hispanic," and that most of those "Hispanics" speak English (including virtually EVERYONE under the age of 30), Spanish is certainly not a necessity. Many of the "Hispanic" people living in Miami-Dade were born and/or raised there, and speak English as their first and/or best language. You will hear a LOT Of Spanish if you move to Miami, but you should know that many of the people speaking Spanish also speak English. If there is one thing that you should NOT believe when people give you advice about Miami, it is that you need to speak Spanish. It's simply not true, even in most non-affluent areas.
