No, I work in the city and it is not a safe place in general. I see lots of things on a daily basis just about.

No. For higher price, try Miami Lakes, which is a very nice little town with tree shaded streets, beautiful parks and even a small downtown. About 1000/month or more for a 1 bedroom. Very nice sense of community and fairly safe. For middle price, try Pembroke Pines, Weston, west Miramar, or basically the entire I-75 corridor through SW Broward County, which consists of newer areas that more or less "typical suburbia" and have all your basic conveniences. Pretty safe and around 900/month give or take for a 1 bedroom. If these are are not obtainable, try I would even try east Miramar over Miami Gardens, which is a little gritty but mostly safe as long as you stay east of University Dr (yes the opposite of most of Broward) and away from State Road 7. Rent might be closer to the 700/month range. Miami Lakes would be the preferred option if you were to work in Miami Gardens.

Bring a gun- lots of ammo- bulletproof your windows- and stay low to avoid a stray bullett. Think Rambo- not the Rambo walking home all happy type stuff either- more like Rambo if he went to Hell. Although she may know that kind of atmosphere if shes from Newark.

I just want to thank all of you who replied with so much information. After reading what Miami Gardens is like, I'm glad to say I just got an e-mail from this friend looking for a job, telling me she took a job right here in New Jersey - in a little town of Cranford. Way safer, it sounds! Thanks again!
Tamara

It's not the worst but it's not really safe either.

The 13th most dangerous City numbers are from 2007. In 2008 overall crime was down 15%. The City still has problems but things are getting better every day. Yes, there are still violent incidents there but the city is not nearly as bad as some portray it. The biggest problem there is a small percentage of the youth that join gangs and commit violent acts. The vast majority of people there are hard working decent people.
