Look into the southeast part of the turnpike and west of the homestead speedway all the way up to 344st. and #1. Many single-family homes , many subdivisions. it is safe in that area.

60005, eh? I grew up in 60004. Small whirled!

I love Homestead and the Redlands. It is agrarian, has a vibrant community of farmers and farmworkers (and immigration detention employees...). When I moved to SoFlo from the upper Left Coast, I pined for my tribe (I'm a progressive, looooong-haired, tie-dyed, nature-loving peacenik) and found most of them in the Homestead area.

If I didn't have to commute to Jackson (just off dowtown Miami), I'd live there happily and have a big garden.

Key Largo is cool, but the drive is dangerous to FlaCit. There are two roads up out of there (US1 and Card Sound Road) and even with the improvements, it is a dangerous drive (drunk drivers, seleepy drivers, highway speeds on small roads, etc).
