Miami has a huge medical/research sector in and around Miami's Civic Center. Jackson Memorial is a huge employer there as is UM Hospital (formerly Cedars Medical). There are many research labs, hospitals, and health centers there that employ thousands.

Except there's a hiring freeze at anything UM related for probably at least a year or two.

Are there any large business parks in Miami besides Blue Lagoon?

Doral perhaps. I don't know if you can technically call it a "business park", but it is certainly a suburban business area.

First thing first since Miami is home to many corporations Latin American HQs such as Fed Ex, Microsof, Sony, American Airlines (which is the cities largest private employer) etc.. If you learn Spanish it would be a big plus. Miami is not called the Capital of Latin America for nothing. Publix is always ranked as a great place to work for same with Fed Ex and UPS all have large operations in Miami. Also you have all the cruise lines which have nice benefits.

The UM hiring freeze is not affecting the medical campus as much as the Coral Gables campus. My department at the medical campus hired a new IT person last week and there are jobs listed on the UM website.

The freeze mandates that a job must be "absolutely necessary" in order for a department to post an open position. I think this may have been what got UM into a little bit of a mess, why would you fill a position that is not necessary is beyond me.

That is correct but any new hire has to be approved by THE man upstairs at this point. There are lots of jobs posted. That does not mean they will be filled. I'm at the medical campus also.
