I live pretty close to UM and the students ride their bikes by all the time.

1 note as to walking/biking... staying on the north/west side of US1 vs the south/east side is SO MUCH more pleasant. US1 is VERY trafficy and congested. Getting across everyday will probably get old. That being said, Miamiblue is right that there are some nice rentals in S Miami.
Also, try along Ponce just E of UM.

Why not try and find a roommate? Maybe try Craigslist.

Good luck.

I'd suggest you look somewhere on-campus first, if not atleast you're lucky because everything around UM is really nice, it's some of the most expensive neighborhoods of Miami. Brickell is really nice and popular, but if you're transferring and don't know anyone, it might be hard for you to meet people. The benefits of living in Downtown or Brickell are that you can leave your car behind and take the Metro to UM. I suggest you look for something on-campus. Try University Village, it's technically part of UM's campus, but has an off-campus feel.

By the way Burgler09 what are you majoring in?
I'm a biochem major. I wouldn't say that UMiami is horrible to make friends, because I meet a lot of good people. The problem is that when you live off campus you tend to make a lot more aquaintences than real good friends. I can't really complain, because I have a fun time here, but there are some people who wouldn't like it as much. In all reality though, if you don't mind going out alone... it is so easy to meet people if you just go to south beach or something similar.

21 year old grad student though? I'm jealous I'm 21 with another year + to go

you can find one bedroom apt around 88th st (take metro to UM since you can buy a discounted metropass.) around $750. One-bedroom in a house should be even cheaper. UM has a link to the listings.

You beat me to it!

Did you see the monthly rental for the townhouses? Ludicrous. The darn breaker box is smack in the middle of the wall. That is so cheap looking. Need a huge painting to cover that.

I agree. $2300 for a two-bedroom? Come on, this is year 2009.

I don't know if you mean that it's too low or too high but I would not pay $2300/$2400 for those TH. You don't even any privacy if you want to split with a roommate. The bedrooms are wall to wall. I think they think people are either stupid or just want to keep them unoccupied.
Wonder what SFH go for and they're pretty old properties, no matter how remodeled they may be but you do have to pay CG taxes.

I don't think Faculty will live there and students can't afford that, much less "staff".
