Some bad reviews: Uncle Tom's BBQ - Miami Restaurant - South Florida Menupages Restaurant Search

Didn't the New Hickory used to be around there? We used to go to the Ole Hickory, near Tropical Park (1968 - Ole Hickory Bar B-Q on Bird Road at SW 75 Avenue, Miami photo - Don Boyd photos at pbase.com).

How do they have the gall to serve the stuff they serve? How do they stay in business?
I know their sides are quite crappy, but I think the meat is good. It might be a new family that owns it, but the guys behind the scenes are the same ones from years (decades) ago.

Bummer to hear that about Shivers. In the 1970's that was where my family ate BBQ once or twice a week and it was great.

Its certainly a matter of personal taste. I am partial to South Carolina style BBQ pork shoulder (mustard/vinegar on smoked meat, absent from SoFlo), Texas style beef brisket (Shorty's on US1 was not bad with this a few years back, as was Jake's on Red a couple years ago), and memphis style ribs (lots of this, but mostly either too soft as at Flanagan's - everywhere - or too dry as at The Pit on Tamiami trail).

I still eat BBQ around here, but its not a SoFlo staple. Better up in central Fla and northwards.

There's a place on 8th Street on the way down to the Miccosukee Indian Casino (going South). I can't remember the name but it's right off the road and it's always packed. It's supposed to be really, really good.

well perhaps I'm just mighty picky about my open flame cooked table fare. actually I'm extremely picky. I really don't like anyone's cooking except my own though I will tolerate my bride's cooking.

Yeah, that's the place I mentioned on Tamiami Trail: "The Pit". Its ok. You like frog legs and gator tail? Good place to watch yokels, er, locals. I go for the vibe more than the food, but its an ok stop on the way back from a bike ride in Shark Valley (in the Glades).

I have been to shortys once and It was okay, Beach BBQ is pretty good I cant complain it is nothing you would find in Kanas City or Memphis but for Miami it is pretty good I would reccomend it. Anyone know of a place in Broward? I have been looking for a good place for a while now.

Hee. Then I guess I shouldn't recommend to you a place that has some awesome bbq but is probably one of the last places in Florida you would expect to find it.

Oh hell, I'll tell you anyway lol . The Wilderness Resort at Disney believe it or not. The Whispering Canyon Cafe had probably the best bbq pulled pork sandwich I ever had and I still can't believe it! I wanted to shoot our waiter but the food was insane. Thankfully thanks to the google and the internets I have found I am not alone. Thank God for anonymity eh?
