I went to Killian, so clearly Killian is better (Palmetto was our main football rival).

But seriously, Palmetto does somewhat better on FCATs, and it serves a demographic that tends to have involved parents. Some have said that it's a bit snobby. (Trivia: Jeff Bezos, they guy who started Amazon.com, is a Palmetto alumnus.)

More interesting would be to compare Palmetto with magnet school Coral Reef.

I graduated from Palmetto, but I wonder if Killian is better. It has more Honor and Gifted classes. And I like the AP scholar academy. Did they have that program when you attended?

I went to Palmetto in the mid 70's and was in a decent safe neighborhood back then.

Though both are good and I would send my child to either one of them, Palmetto has the reputation of being the "best" non-magnet public high school in Miami-Dade. Both schools are in very nice neighborhoods and neither is known for having an abnormal amount of fights, drugs, etc.

Both schools are great. Palmetto however usually gets ranked highly in stats.

Both are good and I've heard good things about both. Palmetto I've heard is exceptionally-well though, especially on college acceptances and SAT scores.

Thanks for all the input. We are leaning towards Killian, but we are still going to check out each school. He has a guaranteed spot at Coral Reef's IB program. Don't know if it is worth all the work and stress.
