After 1233 posts, is that the best you could do?

The city and county involvement in the stadium is a symptom of the commissioners' failure. Since tourism is declining along with the economy, they're going to wind up using general funds to finance the stadium that will serve to make money for a few rich guys. As usual, there will be no accounting, as there was not after the Miami Arena debacle.

And where did all that money go that was collected from the extra 1/2% sales tax, that was supposed to be used for transit?

I don't know what the answer is. I'm too cynical to posit a solution after seen that sort of thing go on for so many years.

STOP the Marlins Stadium...that'd be a good start.

How can they justify paying for this when 1) we are in a recession and 2) our schools are grossly underfunded?

No, let's build a stupid stadium so a 525 béisbol-loving jackasses can go watch the Marlins in an empty stadium, paid for by the ever-milked Dade County taxpayer.

This an outrage -- it's pure robbery, plain and simple.

Only in Miami....

And 3, all of the financial benefit goes to the owners of the Marlins.

It's a travesty, but the do this sort of thing in other places as well. Not that that's any comfort.

No comfort at all, trust me. I call it robbery...plain and simple.

Are the Marlins going to pay this money back? If they plan to, I find that hard to believe since no more than like, 500 people go to their games (even fewer will go being as the new stadium is in a ridiculous location in the first place).

There is a good chance that it will be an epic financial disaster for the county and city.

I am so disgusted by the stadium decision that I actually want to leave Dade County & move to Broward, just on friggin' principle.

I can understand why many people end up hating the government....in this case, local government. This is robbery, at best.

I was reading some of the comments on the pro-idiot Miami Herald and people were defending the stadium by saying that 99% of the money is coming from revenue generated by tourism. WHO CARES? If the money is there, it could have gone towards schools, or affordable housing, instead of this BS. Besides, do you honestly think they'll fill that stadium? Of course not....the Marlins will be lucky to get 5,000 people, if that.

Does Miami flouridate its water supply? Serious question.

It is a shame that all over the country things like this happen and the citizens could make such a change if the band together, sign petitions, etc...

The fact is that everyone thinks it and then does nothing after.

I don't live in Miami but if I did I would fight the new stadium for sure with the reasons that the city A- allready has mass transit projects promised from money taken that have never been completed and which they are still responsible for, and B - I would bring up the idea that they could augment the Dolphins stadium to accommodate a baseball diamond like many cities do. Edited to add: Duh, I guess they've been doing it allready. Why do they think they need a seperate stadium? Spend that money on connecting the dual stadium to public transportation light rail, as well as the airport and MB.

We need to hold these people accountable and if they refuse to do anything then the issue needs to be at the forefront of the next election.

Is such a thing really possible? I mean, we're at a lower altitude than Denver, and well, you know, I told the Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that Bridge to Nowhere. Umm, sorry, I was channeling Sarah Palin. I hate when that happens.

I'll bet the Marlins would attract a lot of fans if they played a Dolphin Stadium, which was constructed entirely with private funds.

Baseball in Miami-Dade County. Imagine that.

Plus the Dolphins stadium is much more accessible for people living in Broward and other parts of Dade, who might want to go to the games.

Ummmm....I was joking above. The Marlins do play at Dolphin Stadium. No one goes to the games.
