My husband was a Greek immigrant and got NOTHING from the US and NEVER spoke Greek in public btw, he wanted to assimilate asap. So I have no empathy for this crap.

His cousin jumped ship FOUR TIMES and got DEPORTED three times. The fourth time he lived IN A BASEMENT FOR TWO YEARS, paid for a marriage, became a citizen then JOINED THE MILITARY and stayed in his entire life working his way up to some high grade. Still married 35 years.

I don't know about the non Repub thing. I saw the Democrats on tv today sucking up big time how Castro was their hero. Literally. "like meeting an old friend" , "in my house he's known as a true survivor", "he looked in our eyes and said 'how can we help president obama'.

Pile of crap all of them. Now Obama's cutting to amnesty? Without a single position on the border. Like we're stupid and don't understand it's just a play for opening the spigot for more Dem votes. Pelosi when speaking to a bunch of illegals: "you are the true patriots". Anti american witch, that one.

He's trying to make everyone a zombie introducing so many programs right away. The good part is he'll be a single term pres. It'll take 20 years to clean up his mess just like Carter. I don't consider myself to be a Democrat or a Republican either. I think that both parties are a joke, to be honest. I chose Obama slightly over McCain, mostly because McCain was just too old and if he croaked, the prospect of a Sarah Palin presidency was even more frightening.

Notice how during the election, neither candidate addressed the issue of illegal immigration?

The "wet foot, dry foot" policy is a joke though. Are you honestly telling me that Cubans immigrants should be treated any differently than any other immigrant? I always use the example of Haiti and Haitians -- Haiti is far more screwed up and dangerous than Cuba, but we turn Haitians away and send them packing.

What irks me more is the arrogance of some of the Cubans here -- they claim to be "better" and "more successful" than other recent groups of immigrants, knowing full-well that they've been given tons more advantages from the word go.

I know I'll be fried for all this, especially in a "Miami" forum, but I'm just voicing my opinions. I have also had the displeasure of living in Hialeah for a few months, so please excuse the fact that my posts might come across as somewhat "negative" towards these people.

BCreass, I'm surprised to hear you say you picked Obama. Granted McCain was an amazingly lousy choice by the Republicans but at least with a Republican(-lite) in the White House and the Dems in congress not much damage could get done to the country. Kinda sad that the best we can hope for sometimes is for government to do nothing.

I think had there been a stronger Republican candidate, I may have gone the other way. I don't affiliate myself with either party, to be honest. I think that both of them are a joke. I think that honestly, Mitt Romney would have stood a better chance, or even Ron Paul.

I can definitely empathise with the OP and being ticked off. We brought our daughter to the doctors' office (we live in Central FL, not Miami) and the doctors office had the TV on. They were watching a cartoon movie, and the entire thing was in spanish. We didnt know what the heck was being said in the movie, but I looked around at the other patients, and I saw why the movie was in spanish. Gee, dont you think a few of the kids that spoke english would have liked to watch the movie and understand what was being said too? Why does it have to be in spanish? That's complete BS! And this isnt in Miami, this is in Central FL, so if some of you all think you'll move out of Miami and move up to Orlando, forget it. It's getting to be like Miami up here now.

You won't believe some of the things said here. Once there was a nurse who wanted a job in Miami but was worried about the language...and the people told her well everyone speaks Spanish in the hospital and you'll be left out so you won't understand what's going on but it's a good way to learn Spanish.

Then they directed her to go to school to learn Spanish. As if a medical professional should waste their time learning a second language that ehy don't need to use anywhere except here...instead of advancing her science and the FUNNY THING IS YOU ARE NOT TRULY BILINGUAL FOR MANY YEARS AND YOU NEED TO LIVE IN total immersion A FOREIGN COUNTRY FOR A LONG TIME to be truly so. I am fluent in Greek but no way can I go work in a freaking medical field.

GREAT...kill me because nobody is speaking English to an Anglo nurse in the hospital.

I encourage you young people to start having six kids per family.

Now a days when there's amnesty the entire family gets to come over.

My husband's brother and cpisom in pre med here and didn't have a work visa and when immigration came in the Greek restaurant where they were working, they both got deported. Nice. NOW you get to come work here arrogantly and even get hospitalization and education including COLLEGE as an illegal. This is why I'm so adamant about the immigration thing. People have no appreciation for our country's leniency compared to how things were during Carter and Reagan. Because the Dems found a new way to get votes is all it boils down to.
