Very low crime there. I like Mid-Town and Buckhead too.

Traffic, yup. I agree. It's pretty bad! I also like Charlotte as well, especially the outskirts. I could see how ppl could think the ppl in Alpharetta are snooty, but your brother-in-law is from S FL, gimme a break! But I do find the people friendlier and I definitely find it more American in Alpharetta, and that's a huge deal to me.

I cant comment on air quality or water problems. That could be true, I dont know.
Ok , maybe I could have worded it differently ... Atlanta which is just south of Alpharetta has a terrible crime rate ... if you have been to Atlanta you would know that smog and crappy air quality is a huge problem and their air quality index is very low as well the entire state of Georgia has been suffering from major water shortages for some time now .. traffic sucks and I have seen lunatic drivers on the GA400 usually in Ford F-150 trucks and with Confederate flags in the back ... not my cup of tea .. again Alpharetta and Atlanta are just ok and I think both are very overrated . I would would not swap Parkland for Alpharetta .. I like the tropical vegetation , palm trees and stucco / spanish architecture in comparable South Florida communities not endless rows of brick homes with shingle roofing . I think Buckhead is beautiful but who can afford to live there ... that upscale area and Mid Town stand out in the Atlanta metro area .. you can have the rest .

Yeah, but Coral Springs, Weston, Coconut Creek, etc are also in the 100s, and Alpharetta's crime rate is about the same as Pembroke Pines, which is considered to be a good, but not outstanding area in South Florida. There are several other cities that are also in the mid-high 200s to low 300s that are within the same relative distance to Miami as there are within the Atlanta area. Alpharetta is a nice area within an hour of Atlanta (among others), and Weston is a nice area within an hour of Miami (among others). Otherwise, it all depends on what you want. Remember, "rude people" is subjective and could have a lot to do with how you treat people day to day, Hispanics aren't necessairly "bad" and many even *gasp* hold college degrees and proudly speak English, and crime is generally high with exceptions in both areas, with the advantage ACTUALLY going to South Florida in that respect.

Good post ... I will never understand the fixation some posters have with Alpharetta and Atlanta in general ... areas that are just ok and no better than South Florida .

Me too...I love it. Occassionally I DO look at places in the South, like Charleston or Wilmington, etc...or even Texas...but brick homes, etc...NOT interesting at all.

I love the stucco/spanish architecture as well! Palm trees as well.

Not all houses in Atlanta are brick, many are concrete block with hardi board and stone. I'm not a big fan of brick myself.

But to say, Rock Newman, that Alpharetta is no better than S FL, is obviously an opinion, but when it comes to a quality of life for most, Alpharetta fits the bill a bit better. Tons of Floridians move up there, but how many people you know move down to S FL from Alpharetta? S FL attracts (nowadays) the folks from Haiti and Central America, and NY; Alpharetta attracts a different kind of people.

Yeah, it attracts Haitians, Central Americans and New Yorkers from South Florida. Remember, you said it was more diverse than Miami, not me.

That is why I enjoy Southern California so much as many parts have the look and feel as South Florida sans the humidty and mountains .. I also love San Antonio , parts of Nevada , New Mexico and Scottsdale , Arizona for the same reasons .. stucco and Spanish / Italian architecture , sun , warmth and palm trees !!

South Florida attracts people from the Caribbean and Latin America .. because of the similar weather and the proximity .. no other reason ... if you switched places then Alpharetta would be full of Latin Americans and people from the Caribbean .... here is hoping you get your wish and leave for greener pastures .... bye , bye and good luck ...... please !!!

Atlanta does have some Hispanics, Haitians, and a lot of NY'ers... Alpharetta, John's Creek, Roswell, are almost all white. I would be more interested in living in the outskirts anyway, so a place like Alpharetta or Canton would be better for me and our family. Moving from S FL, assuming they are from NY or Hispanic or Haitian, places inside Atlanta city limits would probably suit them better.
