I stick with my point that Pembroke Pines is closer to high-crime neighborhoods than Kendall is...

I'd say the unoffical line is probably 107 Ave.

Or even 97th ave/don shula expressway... pushing it to 117 or the turnpike is a bit of stretch for me, even though it gets easier to do as west kendall keeps growing towards the everglades.
And Pembroke Pines is called the new Hialeah because a lot of families are leaving Hialeah for points further north (Miami Lakes, Palm Springs North, Pembroke Pines, etc...) You meet a lot of people (especially in Miami Lakes) that grew up or have family in Hialeah, but that doesn't mean the layout of the cities or the services available are the same.

I'd say Kendall for sure. Pembroke Pines is nice, but it's further away and the drive from there to Downtown is longer than from Kendall. I'd stay away from West Kendall, that despite its good public schools, has a lot of traffic during rush hour. If you're going to look into Kendall, I'd look into the area near Dadeland, which has good public schools, is safe, less congested and has good access to Metrorail, so you can avoid driving altogether and just take the train into Downtown.
All of Kendall is nice, it's a normal, suburban middle-class area, with parks, good schools, shopping plazas, and all that jazz. If that's what you're looking into, I really think Kendall would be great.

Crime isn't the issue in Hialeah. It's the congestion and general ugliness of the area, plus the overpriced housing and the fact that it's pretty much devoid of nature.
The sections that run into Miami Lakes are fine though.

Pembroke Pines has changed a great deal....more latinized but it has just made Broward more and more the multi-ethnic treasure chest which is how it started in the first place....which is better because if you get tired that mojito spice you can always switch over to brown sugar and some distinctive variations (cape verden, multiracial jewish or ethiopian jewish anyone?) ..but it still is closer to America than Kendall will ever be....everytime I go somewhere in Kendall I feel as though I have to sing a paen to cafe con leche/tamal en cazuela and the sugar paste paparazzi....the Pines is more an open grab bag....the Italian eating isn't international fare bullcrap but neighborhood places that are a throwback to Bay Ridge and if it's pricy like Roasted Pepper it's worth every penny...Young's Circle and it's environs are not too far..if I want Italian I can choose between Dori's and Gino's or salivate over Mimi's oil-dripping foccacia if I want Jew I can go to better deli's and bagel places there..in addition to Too-Jay's at Tower Shops and fight half the traffic....plus the police department is less corrupt, at least HALF THE COPS THERE signal as opposed to the one token Dudley-Do-Right in West Kendall that God forbid does it....and things are sorted out more in the American grain as opposed to the "NO PROBLEM, MY FRIEND (when the going is good)/ NO LO COMPRENDE! (when gringo is becoming a problem)" grain....which like all things in life has it's advantages and disadvantages (everything is relative), but the Miami vein just gets tiring and trite after awhile..you can only listen to the song "Diamond Girl" and get stoked about it so many times!! RECORD NEEDLE SCRATCH..goodbye

I remember a neighborhood that was kind of misterious, nice, kind of secluded and not far from Dowtown.
You had to turn to the right in US1 not far from Downtown.
There was a museum, maybe a planetarium.

You're referring to the northern area of Coconut Grove (between the "downtown" area of the Grove and Brickell)
This is a map of the location to which you refer. 3280 South Miami Avenue Miami FL - Google Maps

Yes, that was the area.
Must be a very expensive area.
Thanks.
