Do the schools/area of PP out weigh the longer commute? Also, how's that metrorail train? Is it full of fruit cakes or do normal people use the thing? Just looking for options in terms of the commute.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

Does anyone happen to know where I can find an online map of the different suburbs? I can't make sense of anything at the moment.
I think places that I thought are suburbs are actually cities? Could this be correct. We just have cities and suburbs here, but you may have something inbetween??? Counties, then suburbs within counties...that could be it. Does every county have a city?
please excuse my terrible ignorance

Alright, so I just returned from my house hunting trip to Miami. After arriving I drove by some of the homes I was interested in (Palmetto, Pincrest, East Kendall). Not bad, but nothing really jumped out at me.
I did a "test commute" up US1 starting about 15 miles south of Brickell Plaza. It took me over 30 mins on a Sunday afternoon with little traffic, the lights suck.
I then headed up to Pembroke Pines to check out a home I was looking at. I did a reverse commute from Brickell Plaza to the house which is located in western area of Pembroke Pines(1/2mile east of hwy27). It was 28 miles and took 36 mins (I95-112-27). Home looked great, but I was still worried about the commute distance/time. Got up early and made the commute from the house to Brickell Plaza. Same thing 36 min (27-112-I95), left Pembroke Pines at 6:35. Hwy 27 seemed like a decent road, lots of trucks but traffic was moving and the lights aren't as frequent as US1.
So in the end based on the house, commute, schools and my perception of the quality of life we rented the home in Pembroke. Thanks for all your input and assistance!

Ended up in Brickell instead of Kendall/PP
Thanks everyone. We've actually been here about 3wks now, and have been shopping in Doral (people were very friendly, when I wiped out on the sidewalk at Walmart about 4 came running to see if I was OK) and to Hialeah (only to go to Target and Best Buy, to get a better GPS system as we were lost CONSTANTLY....can't say enough about needing a good GPS here if you're new). And in part due to laziness/too much change/too little time/too much to learn on the new job, we ended up renting a very nice 3bd corner unit in the same bldg we were put up in temp housing in in Brickell--not at all what were looking for, but the people in the bldg are SO NICE and laid back, helpful, friendly, etc... that we wanted to stay in that environment. Staff is pretty good and very nice too. So we're high risers now. Work commute is only 8 min., and later this year will be less than 20, so it still works well. Who would have thought? Have a great weekend.
