The demise of the Rascal House is a sad statement.

MiamiBlue beat me to it but I can also recommend Sea Siam for good Thai food. Their address is:
12735 S Dixie Hwy
Miami, FL
33156-5944
Phone: (305) 233-5599
The dinner menu is fantastic but the lunch menu is kind of limited.

My favorite South Beach/Miami Beach restaurants:
Van D y k e on Lincoln Road (South Beach): continental style cafe, good food, the best place for people watching, not too expensive
Da Leo on Licoln Road (South beach): Italian restaurant/trattoria, great food, good people watching, somewhat expensive
Cafe Nexxt on Lincoln Road (South Beach): continental style cafe (pretty much a carbon copy of the Cheescake Factory menu), good food, good people watching, not too expensive, a bit crowded
Joe Allen on Purdy Ave. (South Beach): great neighborhood Bistro, great food and atmosphere, not touristy, not too expensive
Cafe Cordozo on Ocean Drive (South Beach): cafe, Floribbean cuisine, great food, good people watching, not too expensive
Smith & Wollensky (South Beach): an upscale steakhouse, good food, nice view if you sit outside, expensive
Big Pink (South Beach): fun diner, good food, not expensive
News Cafe on Ocean Drive (South Beach): same description as Van D y k e - owned by the same people
Pelican Cafe on Ocean Drive: good continental style food, good people watching, somewhat expensive
Osteria Del Teatro on Washington Ave. (South Beach): haven't been for ages but when I did go the food was amazing, Italian restaurant, expensive
Cafe Nuvo on Espanola Way (South Beach): Mediterranean cafe, great atmosphere, somewhat expensive
Monty's on the Bay (at the Miami Beach Marina in South Beach): decent food, good view, fun and relaxed atmosphere, not too expensive, a good time to go is Happy Hour
The Forge on 41st St. (Miami Beach): my personal favorite - I've eaten there all my life, great food, great atmosphere, very expensive
**************************************
The best thing to do though is go to Lincoln Road (pedestrian mall, great people watching) and/or Ocean Drive (busier with a lot of traffic but also great people watching and nightlife) and walk around. There are so many cafes and restaurants of all kinds and you can check out the menus (which are prominently displayed) and decide which place appeals most.

My fave: Prime 112. You can't beat the food, which makes up for the noise. I just heard Pacific Time closed. So sad.
