Perhaps Florida is much better than NYC...
I found this article in the NYC forums.
If this article is accurate I don't think anybody should complain about S. Florida anymore.
Heck, we make more here in Boca than the average household in NYC.
The article claims that the average median household in NYC is 49k. But, I have a hard time believing it. That's nothing. That means two people working can pull in 24.5k in NYC. It doesn't seem right. I have a hard time believing 49k in NYC is even possible to live on.

I read this article that said Boca is one of the best places to retire. I like it here. Anyway the median household income is more than NYC. What a shocker. I thought for sure NYC would be right up there. How sad. People from that other article seemed to have a lot of complaints about the quality of life in NYC.
I guess the key is to be happy wherever you are. Cause nobody in that NYC article seemed too happy to me.

The median means that half the households in NYC make more than 49K and the other half less than 49K. Having apartment roommates in NYC is very common to help make ends meet.

People complain about South Florida because Boca Raton does not represent what the majority of the area is like. This is one of those excusive cocoon communities where life is great because money insolates you from the hell that the rest of the region is. It is easy to say that all is great when you live in an ivory tower. Try living in Lake Worth or Riviera Beach at the other end of your county and then write about how much better life is here than in NYC. That 49K salary would be pretty attractive to people in those areas.

Q. Why is the middle class so squeezed in NYC?
A. Because the liberal governning elite in NYC (aka. Mayor Bloomberg and the liberal city counsel and state governments) tax the living crap out of people and the folks have very little money for themselves, little money to pay rent, little money to feed their kids. In the meantime, the crooked politicians in NY take the tax money and "buy votes" from poor people with handouts to the lazy people who refuse to work.
Then you come down to FL, where taxes are low, so you keep a LOT more of your money and the lazy people hate it here, because they are forced to work, as the state government does not fund lazy people who just want to get their welfare check in the mail.
No wonder the hard working people of NY come down to FL. They love to work hard, pay little in taxes, and take good care of their families.

If you lived in one of the main West Palm beach neighborhoods or in East Boynton you'd wish you were in NYC. Outside of your little green bubble in Boca Raton there are gangs, violence, and loads of crime in Palm Beach County.
