Tropical is determined by POSITION on the Earth.

If your position is on and between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, you will have tropical caliber ultraviolet radiation.

Places like Bermuda are NOT and NEVER WILL be tropical, even if it was always 70 degrees, because Bermuda is NOWHERE near being on and between Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.

Cuba IS tropical, REGARDLESS of if the air gets as cold as Miami. Yes, in general places at sea levels in the tropics will be warm too, however, if they are not - so be it. They are STILL TROPICAL.

Only SEAL LEVEL COUNTS.

Koppen's stupid system is WRONG.

The thing that saves Miami *possibly * is, - is it close enough to the Tropic of Cancer to not make a difference? Is the ultraviolet radiation in Miami almost identical to the tropics? That is the question.

IF the answer happens to YES, that Miami's sun is equal to that of a place like Cuba, then Miami IS tropical. If not, then Miami is NOT tropical.

For instance , if Miami was warmer than Mazatlan Mexico - IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE- MAZATLAN IS TROPICAL, because Mazatlan is right below the Tropic of Cancer and has TROPICAL CALIBER ULTRAVIOLET radiation.

Tropical is all about the fact that places directly on and between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn have FAR STRONGER ultraviolet light than does the temperate zone.

The Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn are named by us, but they are REAL GEOPHYSIC SPOTS where the sun is far more intense due to :

*tilt of Earth

*curve of Earthg

*how all of this relates to the sun 's light hitting Earth directly

POSITION ON EARTH. THAT IS WHAT MATTERS.

The Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn are NOT the same as the nonsense Mason Dixon line etc , which is a man made zone .

honolulu, hawaii comes in 2nd place but to me its not even close Hawaii your stuck on a island in the middle of the Vast Pacific ocean. and unless you are a hardcore surfer and huge pothead you will leave hawaii. I mean I once was thinking of going to Uof H for college but i then realized i could drive around the whole island in about 3 or 4 hours!!! No thanks

-San diego, LA, Houston/ galveston, all too cold sorry they don't make the cut they can not be added into the discussion. Tampa, Fl would be close but too cold there as well...

ok what about outside the U.S.? anything out there? I mean miami and fort lauderdale do have their bad slums and ghettos but it seems to me all the tropical city's outside the U.S. have far worse living conditions/ghettos/bad drinking water ect...
ex: (Africa, South america, parts of south asian)

and yes i know miami is in the subtrobics )slightly above the tropic of cancer);but that doesnt matter their average monthly temperature never falls below 64.4 degrees(see above citation) thus making south florida have a true tropical climate

Miami - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia-

Please Argue with me or agree why Miami/FLL is the best tropical climate (major)city in the world

There's nothing to argue,we agree with u...

The only potential rival is Bahamas & Cuba, after its liberation, for tourist purposes only......

I know this is an old thread but I truly believe MOST PEOPLE would take HONOLULU's climate by a LONG SHOT over Miami's climate. And I DO APPRECIATE Miami's climate (at least for 6 months of the year).

Honolulu is located in the TROPICS and at sea level, so it is a tropical climate. The populaiton of the City of Honolulu is similar to the City of Miami (granted the metro area's pop. is another story, Oahu is a small island).

The key points that make Honolulu's climate more desirable are:

1) HONOLULU is drier and LESS HUMID (much LESS rain in Honolulu than Miami and the TRADE WINDs make a summer in Honolulu PARADISE compared to Miami).

2) HONOLULU is CONSISTENLY warmer during the winter than Miami.

3) Annual rainfall in Honolulu: approx. 22 inches, Miami: approx. 56 inches

Honolulu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Add in a tropical montain range and the best surfing in the world and HONOLULU takes the cake. Granted cost of living and island fever are not being considered as factors in this analysis.

Hi Harry...enjoy your posts but you are WRONG on thsi one...

Hawaii ranked NO. 2 on the list of "Happiest" states according to a recent poll by the Gallup Organization. Yes, these polls can be subjective BUT it does demostrate it can't be nearly as bad as you suggest......

Miami is semi-tropical
Honolulu is tropical
Singapore is equatorial
This is a fact.
For the record it snowed in Miami in 1977, and got to freezing this year.
