Vedado is a nice rea. But the problem there is that the "revolution" has planted soviet style high rise buildings in that area inhabited by the type of people you find in projects in the US.
But Vedado is top notch.
Yes, you find houses and buildings there that are baffling.
Not even in Spain you find the houses they have there, palaces, many crumbling, but beautiful.

Leo, I really appreciate all of the information you have given me about Cuba. Most Cubans I know have never returned. Someone I know, however, did go for church "missionary" work. He grew up hearing about how grand and beautiful Vedado and Miramar were, how nothing in Miami compares. When he arrived, he cried because has was expecting elegant apartment buildings and mansions and saw rubble. How marvelous it would be to restore those beautiful neighborhoods. Havana deserves to shine once again as the crown jewel of the Caribbean.

Havana is still a superb place. Miramar is a very nice place.
Old Havana, even in ruins is a majestic place packed with palaces and amazing ruins.
And then you have Siboney (Biltmore), Mayabey (Country Club)...
Those places are majestic.
I love to walk around all that area.
Look at this house.

This is Siboney (Biltmore). Just like Coconut Grove but bigger, far more vegetation, far more luxurious. Never seen anything like this place in Europe.

Leo, that is beautiful. Can you start a thread about the current state of Cuba so that we can have this discussion and view photos without the moderators closing other threads for having gone off-topic? Thank you!

Could you believe that they use this house in Miramar for the Embassy of Vietnam? Crazy.

What happened to rockers (because no, I do not classify emo as rock)?
When I was in high school, I was into grunge.

It could be interesting. But the pics here correspond to a small reality since the country is in shambles.
There are no equivalent neighborhoods in Miami.
Vegetation there is out of this world.
Of course, the real inhabitants of all those areas are now in Miami, I guess.
Ok, what title in the thread?

This is the Habana Vieja, the old town, the area they are refurbishing since most was in ruins.
Most of the material for the reconstruction comes from Spain, of course, but the Mad one wants to buy the stuff in Venezuela, Venezuela doesn't have any materials.
This street here resembles Barcelona a lot.
